If he is signing for the minimum BB will definitely take AP.

Really interesting that the Pats preferred to keep Butler than to trade the 1st round pick.

Cooks

215 catches, 3 fumbles, none lost.

Nice!

So why are the Saints shopping Cooks anyway? He is only 23 and could be part of their future. Now they have to rely on drafting well.

I don't know either, seemed like a good weapon and Brees isn't getting any younger. Makes me a bit skeptical that he will make a huge difference, but I'm still optimistic. I like that the Pats now seem to be in "win now" mode like we've wanted them to be for a few years as Brady has aged. If they're able to keep Jimmy and also "win later" it will be brilliant (though I still think moving Jimmy is reasonable)

Saints are desperate for defense & needed to reallocate their resources.

Cooks was disgruntled because he "only" had like 126 targets. Hopefully winning will be good enough for him.

No sarcasm intended: Have you seen AP *play* lately? He's horrible. Again, I'm in MN, I see all their games. He's not worth the minimum. I'd rather hand the ball to Develin.

EDIT: But then again, I was quite wrong when I said BB would never spend a #1 for a wide-out, so what do I know?

surprised there isn't more chatter about the Cooks deal. maybe everyone's head is just spinning from the huge amounts of activity so far

- Allen trade
- Ealy trade
- Cooks trade
- Guy signing

I don't remember a more frenetic offseason start for the Pats. and it feels like a couple more big shoes are going to drop:

- Hightower coming or going
- Butler going or staying
- Jimmy G

as things currently stand, Pats look like a super team. on top of the team that just won the SB they'll be adding a #1 type CB, a #1 type WR, and Gronk. crazy. (though losing Hightower would be a big hole)

my guess is they keep Jimmy. I don't know how they make that work in 2018, but they have so much cap space now maybe they front load a deal? but nothing would be surprise me at this point. I just can't seem they not trading Jimmy now and then letting him walk after the year - if they keep him now they must have a plan to keep him for 2018 and beyond

it's just stunning how good this team looks on paper. even a Brady injury or regression might not be enough to stop this team - if they keep Jimmy

They still have $35m + $6m of Amendola available, too. No draft picks before the 3rd round, but YOLO.

They really can't keep Jimmy past this year unless they are ready to start him in 2018 tho.

Apparently an anonymous team that is negotiating with Hightower is convinced he's going back to NE, so there goes a chunk of that space, but not many holes left to fill.

If I didnt knew better I would think that Bill decided "Lets get Brady name behind some more records".

for example the TD-record from Manning

can't help but think a big part of the pats bargaining power right now is "19-0, you in or you out?"

100%. SI just wrote a long piece on it.

Chris long said he turned down 2x from DET+CLE to come get a ring.

Agents say BB's go-to line is, "Does your guy want to win a SB, or not?"

maybe "trade Brady" is in play after next year. or is it possible this is their plan with what to do with all that cap space? carry an extra $20m into next year, bite the bullet on paying 2 starting QB's for one year? they might think it's worth it if what they are buying is another 10 years of having a great QB.

or maybe tonight they trade him for a bunch of picks

no idea but it's a fascinating scenario

It almost seems like the writing is on the wall. The Pats used most of their early picks in trades and now dont have a pick in a deep draft til like the middle of the 3rd round. They have an asset that is pretty much surplus to requirements that can get them picks back in the early rounds.

You would think its a no brainer that a trade will happen but at the same time the likes of Schefter, Reiss and Curran are all pretty much saying a trade wont happen.

if they are trying to maximize the next 2 years, certainly trading Jimmy is a no brainer (though you can argue having a great backup QB (to a 40 yo starter) is a valuable asset in it's own right, perhaps more than a 1st rounder will be worth this year)

but if BB legit wants to coach for 10 more years, then maybe he is preparing for the next run

as I said above, the one scenario I find least plausible is that they keep Jimmy now and let him walk next year

Yeah I think a lot of the decisions really depend on what BB's desired coaching window, unless he really takes the "best for team" mantra beyond his own tenure as head coach.
