Now I'm reading on the local site that it's a minor injury and he'll be fine.

you think something like that?
I got Brady -12.5, Jimmy -9.5, Jacoby -6.

I'm pretty dumb about a lot of things, but I'm pretty good at making lines (except I'm always higher on the Pats than the Vegas number--but since NE covers 57% of the time, I think I'm right and they're wrong).

feel like pats going with jimmy is a sign that they be seriously contemplating moving on from brady and want to see what he can do again.

Wut? He's clearly more game ready than Jacoby. I don't think it's related.

Well this has sucked. How the **** were the refs not ready on that 3rd and 1? I've legit never seen that happen before.

Worst thing about this loss is the 7 days of waiting before Brady destroys the Browns.

Just sucks having the 3rd super bowl loss of the Brady era.

****ty game but Jacoby did his best, no one ever expected him thrust into this role and coaching only goes so far. My only concern right now is Gronk. It's his 2nd game back in the lineup, I guess he did some blocking but they clearly had no interest in having him carry the offensive load to help Jacoby out. Not sure what's going on with him yet.
Edelman isn't very useful without a QB with touch. I have no idea what they were trying to do in the first half, anymore than during the Miami game last year. Just nonsensical.

I'll rank this game below 2014 Chiefs, 2009 Saints, and 2010 Browns because Brady wasn't playing, but this is #4 on my list of worst losses of the BB era. Incompetence all around.

I worried they might come out flat, having secured at least a 3-1 without TB12. Not upset.

It seemed like they weren't even trying to win. Hope Bennett is OK

Only thing bugging me would be the 2 missed FGs in these games.

They haven't even shown the best of the Gronk/Bennett package.

Gronk obviously isnt 100% and they are being careful with him. Gronk is cautious with injuries and needs to practice and play before he feels he can go full tilt (see the start of the 2013 season and the games he took off last year)

Like what else do you think the thought process is here "hurrrrr we have Gronk, but nah let not use him durrrrr"

Also, uh, pretty sure they were trying to play conservative given they had a hurt third stringer at QB and no other quarterback on the roster. Like, yeah, Id have thrown a little more on first down too I guess, but not that hard to understand what they were doing,.

That game ranks like last on my list of losses during the BB era. They were playing with a crippled third stringer at quarterback and the rest of the team had an off game. Zero predictive value, zero ****s given. They are 3-1 with 2.5 games at QB from Jacoby Brissett and 3% contribution from Gronk and played four games without (Bolden news nonwithstanding) losing any starting players to major injury. Dont caaarrrrrrree.

Also have zero idea why 2009 Saints is on that list. The Pats werent very good and lost to team that crushed at home. Then you posted on another board that BB should be held accountable and fired in lol Salva fashion.

Meh. Pats' defense had a collective bad day and still only gave up 16 to a team that put up 33 on AZ the week before.

Even with a hurt 3rd string rookie, the Pats were 2 or 3 bad breaks away from being less than 7 behind at the end.

This game doesn't even make the radar for bad losses.

16 sort of overstates how well the defense played, but meh, yeah I agree. Front seven and particularly the front four need to generate pressure more consistently, but its likely a solid but not spectacular defense which, when paired with a very good to elite offense and very good special teams, will be a contender. My worry going into the year was the offensive line being absolute dog**** like it was early in '14 and last year after 30 injuries, but nah, they're fine

I'm delighted the D only gave up 16, given the utter lack of support they got from offense and special teams. Hope they give up 16 every week.

Bills drives were

TD/65 yards
FG/52 yards (stopped by the dumb PF)
FG/71 yards
Punt/49 yards
3 and out punt
(halftime)
Missed FG/33 yards
FG/44 yards
punt/25 yards but they killed six minutes of clock
punt/17 yards but they got a first down to kill all the Pats TO's and basically end the game

So yeah, they gave up 16 points, but wasnt really a good performance. No turnovers, one three and out, and the Bills spent the 4th quarter chewing up clock and the D still didnt really get stops.

Saying they didnt get much help from ST/the offense is a little overstated too. The Bills were inside the 10 twice in the first half and the defense couldnt get any stops to get field position and the Bills didnt have a short field all day (Buf 38 best starting spot).

I thought they played a bit better in the second half, but it wasnt a good day on defense by any stretch. 16 points was a bit deceptive.

I would have preferred opening up a bit on offense after they got down 10. (They eventually tried in the 2nd half.) Worst case was 3-1, why not play at least a little aggressive with nothing much to lose?

But it was generally just a weird bad game all around. It happens.

Bend don't break. Pats' D is 2nd in Bendability rating at 24.2 YPPA (yards per point).

By contrast, Denver is 10th at 17.7 YPPA.

Bendability is great when you usually play from ahead like the Pats.

Feel like pats have always had high "bendable" teams. Curious what their position in that stat is since Brady entered God mode in 2007.

bend but don't break is sort of a myth, except when it comes to BB. pretty sure there is research on this. Pats teams have generally ranked much better in Points Allowed than their Yards Allowed would indicate, which would indicate variance for most teams but Pats have been doing it for a while, so...yeah. ditto for Special Teams which for most teams is variance but we've been consistently good as it
New England Patriots: Knocking on Seven's Door (Now with Happy Endings) Quote

Id bet on special teams being skill, "bendability" being closer to a statistical fluke. Pats roster construction focuses more on special teams then almost everyone else in the league and they've had an elite kicker for all of the BB era and an elite punt returner for much of it.
New England Patriots: Knocking on Seven's Door (Now with Happy Endings) Quote
10-07-2016 , 01:48 PM
Can't our special teams/offense/turnover rate lead to a higher bendability rating just by leading to worse opponent starting field position?
