Rodgers is really good. Their starting LT was a 4th round pick this year. Their starting RT makes Ryan Cook look like a pro bowler. Give him a real NFL OL and he is probably an above average sack avoider (like he was last year).

We really missed him in the FB screen game. Favre could have had at least 246 yards if Tahi was there for his 2 catches.

I noticed ADP downfield blocking when watching it live and then on that replay...but didn't notice Harris totally giving up on the play for fear of getting trucked. Thanks for pointing that out - LOL

Yeah I noticed that. Good stuff. See Pudge's avatar for a reminder of the Harris/Peterson history

fire Robison for making that game way closer than it ever should've been. even a few yards before his fumble i was shouting "FALL! FALL!" because continuing to run was going to pick up 2 yards max and risk of fumbling had to be like 25% those big guys are awful. secondary were who i thought they were in the 2nd half but it seems to be less a problem with corner coverage as it is tackling in the flat. Paymah, Allen, and to a lesser extent Sapp all seem to fail hard in YAC situations. they're lucky our D-line is so stacked though or they'd really be exposed badly.

agree he's really good (really didn't understand the whole "rodgers has more to prove" rhetoric. he has clearly established himself as a top 10 and probably top 5 QB) and his O-line sucks, but there were at least two sacks he should not have taken. it probably just takes some more experience but there's still several spots he should be throwing the ball away rather than taking sacks.

awesome win going into bye week. i think the 4-6 weeks projection on winfield's injury puts his return sometime between Seahawks and Cardinals?

go falcons

Fire the 5th best linemen because he made a (small EVwise) mistake on special teams. Great idea. We should fire CT for dropping that pass that turned into a pick six last week. While we're at it lets fire Favre for throwing the thing too high + fumbling the ball for another Steelers defensive TD. Etc.

We are all spoiled from years of watching Winfield and, to a lesser extent, Griff. Sapp is a pretty average tackler and those other two really aren't good enought to be getting many defensive snaps for an NFL team, so, I guess we should just hope Winfield heals quickly.

Re: Vikings 2009 Thread Fire Chilly

Just got back from the Taste of the NFL event, free tickets because my company was one of the sponsors. It was pretty fun. Open bar, but only **** beer and meh wine. Lots of free food samples from local restaurants, were mostly ok but nothing stood out. Could've gotten autographs from a bunch of Vikings but I'm cheap and it was $40 per 4 player autograph session.

Did get to meet/say high to Zygi. Childress was wondering around the whole time and I wanted to ask him if he attributes the teams' success this year to his beard, but couldn't justify waiting in line to talk to lolChilly. Also saw EJ (omg he's huge), Hutch (huge obv. too, but not as shocking as EJ) and Donkey, who was constantly surrounded by women, which I thought was pretty funny.

Re: Vikings 2009 Thread Fire Chilly

Zygi's daughter was the first girl I made out with in college, first night I was there. That's a beat for those scoring at home.

I've been saying all year that our defense (with Winfield ldo) is an extremely good tackling defense this year, and I agree that losing him has shown us how spoiled we are. Sapp is ok but Paymah has looked lost a lot the past few weeks. Asher Allen is clearly still adjusting to the size and speed of the NFL.

They mentioned this during the game yesterday, and I brought it up a few weeks ago on a different forum, but is it possible we have one of the absolute elite LB corps in the NFL? E.J.'s value cannot be overstated, Greenway is having a PB year and Leber has shown himself to be a guy who can make open-field tackles, drop back into coverage, and pick up a few sacks. Having them all healthy has been incredible, I think they secretly anchor our defense.

sapp's route on that long rodger's scramble was one of the most pathetic things i've seen all year

Re: Vikings 2009 Thread Fire Chilly

EJ played better last year before he was injured, and the previous year, than he is this year imo. It is good to have him back, but I was hoping for more from him. I think the linebackers are very good, but not great. 3 borderline pro bowlers - at some point in their careers, imo. Maybe there are not any better groups of LBs on any one team, but none of our guys are elite, Ray Lewis/Erlacher type stars. I was hoping for EJ to become a great one. He's very good, but not elite.

Sapp bugs me. He's a knucklehead. The other two young corners may or may not be good someday. They're obviously a large downgrade from Winfield, but I've seen worse. Hopefully Winfield will be ok when the schedule starts getting tougher. We'll need him for the playoffs.

Re: Vikings 2009 Thread Fire Chilly

AP vs Cedric Benson

I was thinking about researching this a little bit, then I was like, meh. (I just looked at ESPN gamelogs and went thru each game, if there's a better way let me know). My perception is that our zone blocking scheme sucks a$$ with AP constantly getting first contact at the line of scrimmage with usually a big glob of both our and their players waiting for him there. We don't make a hole, we tell AP to find a seam. We don't move guys off the line, we slide with them down the line. And, I don't think our O line is good at it.

Simply, running plays where the RB gained this many yards:

AP
-2 to +1 yds: 53
+2 to +5: 68
+6 to +10: 17
11+: 19

Benson
-2 to +1: 39
+2 to +5: 70
+6 to +10: 29
11+: 16

This most excellent sample size (lol) begins to support my theory. AP is getting stopped more at the line of scrimmage. And, he's missing out on 6-10 yd runs by comparison. I would say this is because a power/drive blocking team that is making holes, makes one; the RB gets thru level one, gets 4 yds before contact and then gets 4 yac (to make a big broad example). And subsequently, I think he is missing out on more 11+ yd runs where he'd break a simple 7 yd run into something special.

idk who else to compare him to other than Jackson, but the Rams suck so bad idk if that would be fair. And no one else has the carries that these 3 have (they all have about the same). I suppose I can compare him to a team's RBs. Meh, I just found this 1v1 comparison a little interesting.

(fyi: I didn't count 1 and 2 yd TD runs as the RB is restricted there in how much he can gain, but AP has 5 of those and CB has 2)

So, I'll just throw this out there and see what comes of it.
