Re: Vikings 2009 Thread Fire Chilly
Seem to be feeling like most after this game, disappointed in the outcome, but pleased by how they played.
-Def did much, much better than expected against the pass -Offense didn't seem to have much trouble moving the ball after the first few series.
-Sidney Rice is gooooooood, and developing nice chemistry with favre
-Gotta score td's in the redzone though, run the damn ball

Re: Vikings 2009 Thread Fire Chilly
chilly's level of ineptitude is off the charts. adp + mckinnie + hutch = goalline gold. calling play action once in a four down series is acceptable, twice is too much, but not going for it on 4th and 0.5 you've gotta be ****ing kidding me. our head coach is officially castrated. playcalling was completely nonsensical. 2nd and 18 i believe it was 2WR 2TE ya we're gonna run it with chester. dugan and tahi and kleinsasser are perfect for goalline and 3rd and 1-2 where their mini-pickups underneath actually matter, but chilly puts them in on 1st and 2nd down and allows LB's to unload on ADP because who the **** cares if tahi catches in it in the flat he travels at the speed of a crippled mud monster.
i knew sidney rice was good coming into today but he really emerged as a legit #1 WR in my mind today. besides that sick 3rd and 18 grab there were a couple other plays (one the goal line pass that hit the cross bar, i forget the other but it was left sideline) where he leaped with his sick vertical and his feet would somehow come down just inside the boundary - despite his body moving out of bounds - as if they had a mind of their own.

Re: Vikings 2009 Thread Fire Chilly
Not that this would have mattered, but omg, you have ~45-50 seconds left, are down two scores, have timeouts left, get tackled in bounds and you dont call timeout?! wtf!?!? We still had a timeout remaining with 4 seconds left. A ****ing grade school coach manages the clock better than Chilly.
It was good to see the Vikes basically outplay Pit in Pit for most of the game, especially after that finish last week. But damn, so disappointing because we should have won this game if one of a bunch of plays goes differently.
The trip call
Hutchinson missing a block leading to the forced fumble & 1st defensive TD
Not ramming it in from 1 yard out
Chester turning his head away before he dropped the ball on the game deciding play which led to the 2nd defensive TD, ugh
Any one of those going our way likely changes the outcome. Sigh. I guess we were due to lose one we should have won after the SF and Balt. games.
LOL Dugan laying out the ref on the KR by Harvin. Harvin is so good.
Anyone hear about how bad Berrian's hammy is? I have a bad feeling about that injury. Its nice to see Rice playing so well (what a catch on the sidelines!!), but with a healthy Berrian, that'd make us that much more dangerous.

yeah this is why chilly is an idiot and we packer fans approve viking success bc it keeps chilly around longer wouldnt have made a huge difference 99.999% of the time like you said, but you have to try it.

personally i wouldnt put the steelers in the elite group of teams, but they are far from frauds imo...reed misses 2 FGs in week 2 from inside 45 which he rarely does, cardiac cats luckbox one on them, they were on the right end this week. it happens. likewise, vikings could also have had 2 losses entering this game.

Vikings two minute defense is atrocious, they just call out of a prevent and guarantee a FG at a minimum.
That tripping call was really really really bad.
After today hopefully Chilly will start using ADP in the passing game more.
Sid Rice looked awesome.
Ray Edwards DIVE ON THE BALL

agree 100% with everything you said..obv the first half last week v. baltimore was impressive, but as far as a complete game, i think they did a lot of things right today, just got unlucky.
cant wait for favre-ageddon II...schedule gods set up packers nicely giving them a bye and 2 college teams in between meetings. gl to you guys

Re: Vikings 2009 Thread Fire Chilly
i didn't care that much about edwards not diving on the ball. he probably should have, considering where they were on the field and the number of players near him - but a defensive TD there would have been huge and if he thought he had a good shot at it i'm fully for him going for it. it was third down so not recovering the ball only costs them like 40 yds of field position rather than the ball.

Re: Vikings 2009 Thread Fire Chilly
Also to be completely fair to Chilly they did run it twice in 4 plays from the 1, however the Steelers were offside on the first play.
Edit: More terrible officiating
On third and goal when the vikings PA pass to Kleinsasser he is clearly interfered with.
On the play where benny sapp gets a personal foul Kevin Williams was clearly held.

I could only laugh at Benny Sapp there.. You don't see a guy commit three penalties at once very often

I'm glad someone else noticed this too. I think having dugan right next to him made it an easier non-call(no call?), like 'ah they're just in a cluster **** here, I won't call anything'

Re: Vikings 2009 Thread Fire Chilly
I think the whole "dive on the ball" thing is waaay overrated. You might have a slightly higher chance of recovering a fumble that way, but the number of times people try to dive on the ball only to have it bounce off a pad and go shooting away is ridiculous.

Re: Vikings 2009 Thread Fire Chilly
I thought that personal foul on Sapp was weak. It was obvious that the intent of his hit was to knock Ben out of bounds before the first down marker, not to hurt him. He hit him right as he was going out, not way after.

Yeah I noticed both of those too. Kleinsausage probably still should have caught that ball. The hold on KW was pretty blatant.

Sapp is a moran. I know their guy wasnt that far out of bounds when Sapp hit him, but when you launch yourself helmet first into a guy who's out of bounds like he did, especially when the guy is a QB (out of the pocket or not, the refs pay attention to this), you should expect a penalty.

You can't be serious.. If you disagree that it wasn't a "late hit", which it was, you don't think they could have got him for launching his body like that and/or leading with his head?

Re: Vikings 2009 Thread Fire Chilly
Sapp needs to be aware that if you dive head-first at a QB, there's a decent chance you're getting a penalty, no matter what. However, when he left his feet, Big Ben was CLEARLY still in bounds, and I remember thinking on the replays that he might have actually been in bounds when Sapp hit him, but clearly headed out of bounds. All-in-all, I didn't think that should have been a late hit penalty, but again, they are ALWAYS going to "protect" the quarterback.
That play should have never gotten that far though, as Kevin Williams would have probably gobbled up Big Ben if he wasn't being blatantly grabbed by the back of his jersey to prevent him from moving. What a JOKE of a no-call.
I also saw pass interference on the Kleinsasser attempt, and obviously the tripping call was absolutely terrible. Worst call of the NFL season so far?
