Jackson's suspension could be 4 - 5 games, but we dont yet know if the suspension started last week, because he isnt under contract.

Re: Minnesota Vikings - Fire Chilly
4 games.
Now the question is do the Chargers want one of our d-lineman + a lower pick? We are at a disadvantage vs the Rams and Seahawks because our draft picks will likely be a lot lower, effectively making our pick compensation virtually three quarters of a round lower.
So if the Rams/Chickens are offering a 2nd, we almost have to offer a 1st which seems unlikely.

It would be week 6 if he comes here I think (we have a bye week 4 obv). I have seen some speculation on whether this is the case or not, but no definite answer.

Re: Minnesota Vikings - Fire Chilly
So if we go after 12 games of VJax I think its safe to assume that we will not be getting Rice back anytime soon...

this might be true, but it shouldn't be true. why wouldn't you want them both?

Re: Minnesota Vikings - Fire Chilly
I don't think we are getting Rice back anytime soon either.
I don't think the Vikings being interested in VJAX means he'll be out longer than originally expected though. VJAX is very very good. If they get him it'll be a great medium-term (3-5 year) addition.
Then again when I heard "8 week recovery" I figured a that meant he'd be able to contribute in week 12 or 13, not week 9. I hope Sid will be back too. Next year that is. The only way they let him walk without making me very sad is if they replace him with Moss. In which case I am only a little sad.

Re: Minnesota Vikings - Fire Chilly
I don't think us going after VJax is really any indication of when Sidney will be back. I think its more that our window closes shut after this year, and so we might as well go for it all.

Re: Minnesota Vikings - Fire Chilly
I mean best case scenario is that Sidney is back like week 10 at 90% or so. If we are 3-5 or something at that point, it might be too late. So I think the Vjax option is to bridge the gap between game 5-10 or so, and then make our receiving core nearly unstoppable for the remainder of the season/playoffs when Rice comes back.
Also, if Sidney doesn't come back at all, Vjax gives us a dangerous outside receiver that may be more talented than Rice. Pro Football Focus had Vjax and Rice #1 and #2 last season.
But I am nearly 100% positive we won't sign Vjax for more than 1 year right away. We will likely be able to get Rice cheaper next year due to injury, plus see how Vjax fits here for this season. Then next year we sign both Rice and Vjax, and let Berrian go. If Rice stays hurt, or Vjax pisses people off, then we let one of them go and keep Berrian.
imo

Re: Minnesota Vikings - Fire Chilly
Their current salaries vs their value on the open market:
Rice (+8 mil / yr)
Greenway (+ 7 mil / yr) 100% gets resigned
VJax wants like 9 mil / yr
Edwards (+ 6 mil / yr) likely wont be in MN (hopefully tag - trade)
That's + 30 mil for next yr if we retain all of them.
Favre and P. Williams will be gone (-20 mil).... need to get a QB tho.
If we would resign Rice, VJax this yr. and then Peterson the next yr we'd have Rice - VJax - Percy - Peterson for the forseeable future. OMG that would be amazing, I just don't see it happening it's so awesome.

this imo..... even if they knew he was coming back this year it helps our chances of doing it this year.

Some team reportedly has a deal with Jackson, but not yet with SD. SD apparently wants to wait until after the games this week to see if someone loses a WR to injury, which they think will drive up the bidding price.
