...ailing mother. So we call up a third catcher for a few days?

MN 3-21 at Yankee stadium the last few years. And Johan got 2 of the wins.

Yeah, but this weekend's games are at Yankee Stadium, not Yankee Stadium

--Crede leaves game with a lower back issue.

--2 bombs by Morny (as Gardy refers to him)...woot

--Liriano real erratic. be nice if he can get out of the 6th here and then be done.

--Diq and Bert have a weird chemistry. Their banter is forced alot of time and you get the feeling that they aren't the best of buds. Diq made a call for a Span hit and Bert went on and on and then Bert makes a comment about Crede's back and Diq quips "what, are you a doctor?"

(seeing if Dick Bremer is filtered)

shoulda called up a pitcher with DY out instead of a 3rd string catcher. bullpen is toast, burnt, used up.

Frustrating game.

I'm flying from MSP to NYC at 5AM tomorrow to catch the game at New Yankees' Stadium. Pretty pumped to say the least.

Mauer and Morneau looking pretty awesome this year. Should be a good game today. If no one is posting in the Yankee thread, I might hang out here! I'm not a troll, no worries haha.

wtf is this ****

edit: cuddyer called out for... what?

what the heck? Weirdest call I've seen this year and somehow the Twins are up 1-0.

It's not often you see something in baseball that you haven't really seen before. The call on Cuddyer seemed bad in the first place but the run counting added a whole new level of confusion to it.

punto was def safe there =/

you see that kind of stuff in lower levels of baseball much more often. runners rarely fail to retouch bases when returning in MLB. however, it's impossible to tell whether he retouched or not.

it's a time play so the run counts since it scored before the appeal.

what does "time play" mean?

2nd base umpire having a bad day, Punto was safe.

I suppose the rule is if you touch second base and lose contact with the base, you must retouch the base before returning to first. And we've always thought it was if you round 2nd base you must retouch. Pretty weird nonetheless. They had Coomer down there talking to the umps about the run scoring, I wish he would have gotten clarification on the 2nd base thing.

And lol at the reason the grass is so long in NY. Jeter requested it to cover up his lack of range.

means the home plate ump needs to keep an eye on whether a run scores before the final out is made

example: runner on 2nd 2 outs... base hit to center field. batter-runner tries to stretch it into a double and is thrown out at 2nd for the 3rd out. Did the runner from 2nd base touch home before the batter-runner was tagged out at 2nd?

this obviously doesn't apply to force plays.

doesn't make a lot of sense to me. here's what i get out of it- say cuddyer was halfway to 3rd...he would have been better off running directly across the infield back to first, skipping 2nd and the baseline altogether, because, while he would be out upon appeal, if he made it back in time that way the run would count.

that doesn't seem right to me.

lol, that would be hilarious, but wouldn't he be out for running out of the basepath?

all the yanks have to do is step on 2nd with the ball and make it clear why they are doing that

Well, if the CF had thrown to first and Cuddyer didn't make it back in time, BUT Justin scored before the out at first was recorded. That's not a force play either? So that run would have counted as well?
