Minnesota Timberwolves- Re-re-rebuilding Time Minnesota Timberwolves- Re-re-rebuilding Time

I'm not advocating trading for a PG or signing another starting-capable PG unless Rubio is traded. No way should the Wolves be getting PBev to be on the second unit.

Thinking about this more, I can see us being fine with Rubio as the PG still except in closing time, when I'd be fine with Tyus in instead. I imagine when it comes to the end of games, JB is going to want to run the show (and I approve!!) so we may as well work to give him/Wiggins/KAT as much space as possible. More Belly/Tyus, less Dieng/Rubio as the roster stands now. (or else a crunch lineup of Tyus/whatevercheapguardwesignthatshoots3s/Wiggins/Butler/KAT)

Yeah came to this realisation too after looking at the roster, going to have to take back my wanting of PatPat or Mirotic given we are going to have to spend on wings

Nate Duncan does his mock off-season FA signings. Here was what he did for the Wolves:
-Traded Rubio and Aldrich to Utah for Raul Neto and a 2nd.
-Signed Jrue Holiday to a 4yr/111m deal
-Signed Patrick Patterson to 3yr/37m deal

Thoughts?

Jazz trade seems really bad to me. I know Aldrich is a negative asset but throwing in Rubio and getting crap in return can't be the answer

I think that's a lot of money for jrue but i guess he will end up getting near that from someone

Like if that's rubios trade value and what it will cost to sign a replacement PG I would much rather just keep Rubio at PG and spend all of our cap money on better bench players. Blowing everything up for a small upgrade at pg or pf (and same bench) seems silly to me

Again, I'll contend that while Ricky is good, what he is good AT just isn't the proper fit for the Wolves given Wiggins/Butler/KAT.

Ricky on team just turns Wolves into a more athletic Bulls from last season. Awful 3pt shooting team with massive spacing issues.

Rubio>Holiday, especially with the bigger contract imo. That trade would just be a salary dump, which is ok if we're upgrading, but I dont think Holiday is an upgrade.

I really want to see Rubio run this offense with Butler, Town & Wiggins. Our offense was pretty awesome even without Butler with Rubio running it. He is good at basketball and I think he is a good fit.

Patterson is ok.

People are starting to talk a lot about Lowry & Griffin now. Both have negatives (Griffin injuries & Lowry age), but both ARE great players.

Someone said Lowry was the 10th best player in the NBA by some measurement last season. His net 3 point shooting based on some measurement of number of shots taken, difficulty of shots and % was 3rd in the league, ahead of Curry & Thompson. He is 31 now. Someone else said they expect him to still be a great player at age 35 because of the way he plays. Butler is reportedly trying to recruit Lowry, and one report suggested he might take a minor pay cut to play here, like $25m starting salary. I'm almost convinced this might be pretty awesome. Of course we'd have to dump Rubio's salary to do this and I am not a huge fan of that, but Lowry would be an upgrade for at least the next few years.

There might be a way we can trade Gorgui and Aldrich to make room for Griffin as well.

That would be 5 all stars (assuming Towns will be one this season) starting for us if this all somehow happens. idk how we would find a decent bench and idk how long it would last for, but the next few years could be awesome.

Patterson has sucked for like 2 years and nobody seems to notice

Unbelievably terrible from a smart basketball guy. We do not have a backup wing on the roster. Don't want to dare Thibs into playing Wiggins and Butler 48 minutes.

Does anyone else just wish that Paul Milsap was like 2-3 years younger so all of these Canis Hoopus rumors wouldn't be as depressing?

I mean, don't get me wrong, I love me some paul milsap. I just don't want to sign him with the current timeline of where this team is at.

I don't think anyone is denying that there are upgrades for this roster, especially as currently constructed. However, there are going to be very, very few options that are feasible, much less options that are on such a good contract etc.

Beverly would have been a nice get, Lowry is nice for the short term, but not for this teams' potential title window imo. George Hill and Jrue I've seen tossed around but as was said previously, for the contract that will have to be paid, is it really worth it?

Rubio was a capable 3 point shooter last year and made very good decisions, playing very very well down the stretch. He has great vision and is just entering his prime. I have always been more of an optimist, but if Jason Kidd could learn to shoot 3s in his later years, I'm sure Rubio can improve entering his prime, and he's literally good at everything else besides scoring the basketball. If second half of last year ricky rubio is real, there are very few point guards that fit better, imo.

I'm not saying don't look, all I am saying is that even when Lavine went down and Rubio was relied on more, he still finished the second half of the year shooting 3s at a 35% clip. You would think that with Butler and Wiggins, his looks should be even better than they were this last year. You are taking a gamble of course with it, but he looked so good that I wouldn't be trying to trade Rubio for Reggie ****ing Jackson or Derrick Rose

This covers some pluses and minuses of signing Lowry: https://www.canishoopus.com/2017/6/3...ct-free-agency

The part with the win shares by starters...... wow. But that bench, ugh.

Oh ****. I'm not going to be happy if this means we get Teague. Lowry or bust now.

My 3 favorite Wolves of all time are Zach, Ricky and KG. Thibs ran them all out of town in 10 months.

I'm not a fan of dumping Rubio to "upgrade" the PG spot. I would be a fan of having George Hill or Beverley and Rubio on the same team, but I'm guessing the contracts wouldn't work considering we still need to sign a couple rotation wings.

As far as fits go, Rubio is not great but he's not terrible. Lowry isn't a great fit either (though he is clearly the best player of the PG options.). Hill is a great fit and I hope he's who we end up with.

I know this isn't realistic, but how awesome would it be if the wolves got Gordon Hayward and just played one of the 3 stud wings as a small ball 4 a lot?

It's cheaper than I expected

Teague + the pick + extra money > Rubio im pretty comfortable saying

ESPN, Woj is saying the Wolves are going hard at Reddick. Also I heard we're in the ballpark for Millsap. If we get Millsap, we have about the 2nd best starting lineup in the NBA next season. Maybe Millsap would not break the bank. idk about Reddick. Great shooter, but poor defender and he would be a backup.

Also I heard we're looking at Muscala, who is pretty good and might be cheap. I'd like this guy if he is cheap enough.

Not a huge fan of the Teague/Rubio thing. Doesn't Teague have some defensive issues? It's not terrible, but I probably would have just kept Rubio

What extra money? Teague will be making more than Rubio. I've got Rubio > Teague + a late first.

If you're gonna trade Rubio, at least ****ing upgrade Thibs.
