yeah my main takeaway was that it's entirely possible Rodgers is dumber than MM w/r/t scheming.

He's going to look great facing our secondary

Indeed. Especially with Shields still out with a concussion.

OBJ couldn't ask for a tastier matchup. 35-34 packers because it's at home.

It's a W, at least. Wasn't pretty, but I'll take it.

I think it was better than it looked. Our defense is the real deal. Rodgers was a bit off tonight but if he plays 20% better and Jordy continues to return to form (some uncharacteristic drops) I think we've got a real team. Clearly tier 2 but that's good enough for now

If I see Cobb in the backfield or that ****ing toss to Lacy one more time

Rodgers looked terrible for most of the night, imo. Jordy has a **** ton of drops. Our punter is still EBOLAIDS, and McCarthy still thinks running with a WR when you have a RB averaging 10 YPC is a good thing. Other than that, team looked great. 42.8 rushing yards allowed per game, 4 games in, is still absurd.

Rodgers really did have some awful throws tonight, one in particular early on for Jordy (I think?) that sailed right over and could have been picked.

Also I'm sure it's already been mentioned in regards to the personnel but we have 7 WR with Abbrederis/Davis/Janis/Montgomery combining for one target in four games.

Playing vs Zeke next week will be a good test

The early one was to Adams. It was so high that Adams thought it was to someone else, so he didn't try to catch it.

He missed Adams up the middle in the second half, as well, though I couldn't tell if it was a bad throw or a miscommunication on where the receiver was going to be (I think the former).

Let's be fair - Rodgers had a whole bunch of great throws, too. The near TD to Dick Rod late, the near TD to Dick Rod early (the defender made a great play), the TD pass to Cobb that got called back, the reviewed catch by Jordy on the sideline, etc.

It feels like, as usual, McCarthy just doesn't know how to call a proper game. The first quarter was great - there were a bunch of timing passes, short crosses, and other things that either led to high percentage passes or the field opening up for bigger plays. Later (and I don't have the tapes to verify this - just casual fan work here), it seemed like it was back to iso routes and the receivers had trouble getting open. The O-linemen were the heroes of the night, as they gave Rodgers time to extend plays and finally let receivers break open.

Pretty much, wrt Fat Mike playcalling, yeah. It felt like, after the first quarter, every throw Rodgers was trying to make was always past the sticks or just straight "**** IT, I'M GOING DEEP." Nothing short was really attempted besides the couple of times that Rodgers got pressured and tried to unload a checkdown (poorly). I don't recall seeing a WR screen outside of the first drive nor really any high-precentage stuff, in general, after it.

Also, anytime Fat Mike puts a WR in the backfield, they basically are telegraphing that they're getting the ball. They almost never fake it to them, in that situation, so it makes it absurdly easy to stop, on top of already being completely idiotic.

Packers changed some things last night:

They huddled up on offense and I think that was a wise move. Their opening drive was textbook. To me it was designed to keep the Packers D rested. At one point the announcers stated they had missed 7 third down conversions in a row. If you are going to run the no huddle you need to consistently move the chains. Packers have not been very consistent doing that.

On defense they played primarily cover 2. No doubt it was to help their CBs who were replacing Shields and Randall. I thought it was very effective. Packers have been great against the run but the Giants have a terrible running game too. No need to put a safety in the box against them.

Cobb great game.
Receivers had trouble getting open though.
Kick coverage sucked.
OL was awesome
Kyler Fackrell is the surprise rookie in my view.
**** can the WR playing RB baloney
Ripkowski can carry the rock, a little bit anyway
Run D gets a big test against the Cowboys with their stud OL and Zeke running behind it

+1

I'd also note that, at least in the first half, there were some screen type routes that were really nice. I'd love to see the offense use more short routes. We have guys that can make plays after the catch

WRs in the backfield, Lacy split out is just mindnumbing. If Cobb gets hurt running the ball I'm gonna lose my mind.

I cannot believe we only see Cobb/Nelson/Adams.

Only saw it a couple times but they would flash the personnel on the field and it was always 3 WRs 1 TE 1 RB. Remember when we used to go 5 wide and crush souls? I member.

Man it's so cool having a defense. It's like how do you even lose when you have a defense.

If Rodgers gets back to MVP level they won't lose and if he gets close they still will be pretty damn tough to beat.

The run D is amazing, but the secondary is preettyyy suspect, tbh.

One of these days, we'll play a team that just won't bother running the ball against us. Maybe.

On Sam Shields, I am thinking he is done playing NFL football as well. One of the good things is that Shields has had a chance to get a big contract. A true warrior, love the way he plays.
