Are there any Spurs fans up in here? Duncan the greatest power forward of all time gets no love?
Pop the greatest active coach (and high on the list of all time) in the game today.
Am I missing something or are all the bandwagoners flying with the new look Cavs?
Spurs 2-1, needed some help last night but still winning.
Still room for the fans to join this lonely thread. Ring #6 for Duncan and Pop is only 9 months away
Hey I didn't know this existed. Raggedy win in Denver last night, and now they have to play Portland tonight. They're still in ok shape tho, 4.5 back in 5th. Could use more Parker obv, and Splitter.
GS and some of these West others will come back to earth sooner or later. Marathon not a sprint. And Spurs have the depth.
Spurs actually get way more SE love now than they did a few years ago. Used to be so much Spurs hate here, calling them and especially Duncan **** and flopping bitches and whatnot. SE finally wised up and realized how cool Popovich is and how great the Spurs are.
Hey finally another spurs loyalist on here! Yea I'm not stoked about the last week and a half worth of losses but as always, spurs sit players and find injuries that younger teams dont always deal with. Tiago is just now getting back into the swing of things and Tony comes up lame. Patty still hasn't suited up. Kawai missing games. Is what it is but id rather a team start to hit its groove in April rather than January.
Popovich's evolution into a kind of sports folk hero these last few years has been a pleasure to witness. I can remember when he was a new GM here in the 90s, had only been an assistant in the pros before, and he fired Bob Hill and took over himself. I thought who the hell does this guy think he is, hahaha.
The way in which Popovich fired hill is pretty low personally. Being a coach myself, I thought how he handled that was absolutely atrocious especially considering the David Robinson was injured and nobody would have been able to win with that squad at that time. That's also after Hill came off of San Antonio's best ever regular season and a Western Conference Finals appearance.
That being said, Popovich has revolutionized coaching in the NBA. We now have players like Derrick Rose who look at the length of the season and personally will take themselves out of games to avoid wear and tear on their body. That's absolutely insane thinking just 5 years ago, and now is quite common place among coaches and players alike. The fact that Duncan at nearly 40 years old can still put up a double double at 30 minutes a game (when he does play) is remarkable. Add to that the way in which players come to the Spurs as role players and buy into team philosophy, accept coaching, and then flourish says more about Popovich than most give credit for.
There's no comparison in my opinion, Popovich is hands down the greatest coach in the game.
He's up there in the GOAT argument now with Auerbach, Jackson, and Riley.
SE hates the Spurs announcers, Bill Land and Sean Elliott. They don't bother me, but I can see how non-SAers could find them parochial. Also Sean is much beloved for the Memorial Day Miracle obv, and his comeback from kidney disease. But I hate that Land is calling Boris "Bobo" lately. It doesn't fit his personality in the slightest.
I like to call him "Fat Boris". He's one of my favorite Spurs. Such a unique player. They say he shows up to every practice sipping on a cup of cappuccino.
I'll have to fact check that, an old hs teammate is the spurs beat writer.
This back to back 3ot stuff has to stop. Ok legs cant keep up a full season like that. Getting nervous about the post season with how ridiculously fast the west has started.
I got it from ESPN's Amin Elhassan on TrueHoopTV, who used to work in the Phoenix front office while Boris was there. He also said Boris would always peek into his office and jokingly accuse him of not working. He clearly likes Boris a lot.
Diaw played great too. Spurs are starting to get in a rhythm offensively with more players getting healthy. Record still has room for improvement but it's a long season. Hoping Leonard and mills can get healthy next
I'm already psyched for tomorrow's game against OKC. That's the only ****ing Christmas present I want, a solid home win against these interlopers. And I want Durant to play to make it more real.
