Larry Foote will be a Detroit Lion, ~100% chance of that.

Theres also talk between DET/KC that would involve Glen Dorsey coming here for our 2nd rd pick. Not sure I understand why Pioli wants to get rid of him but I'd gladly ship out our 2nd for him.

You add Dorsey/Foote and it makes our draft look that much better. Shaun Rogers also said he wants to come back to Detroit once he gets released from the Browns, which looks likely.

Biggest question going into the season is will Matt Stafford be the starter from weak 1.

Foote is quoted in the FREEP as saying he'd love to come home and hes a baller first and wouldn't be just coming home to cash a paycheck.

Unless our protection improves a good amount (by either having Cherilus excel at LT and moving Backus to RT or inside) I think Stafford will probably be held out until week 10-11. He'll be the starter at some point in the first season, I just don't think it will be from week 1. We have Culpepper who can take some hits and be a servicable QB (don't forget he came in midway through the season last year and was still our best QB option) until Stafford is ready.

I'm glad we're finally trying to build a defense it seems like, although we're still going to struggle without an elite pass rusher.

If by "elite pass rusher" you mean "adequate defensive line", then YES. The Lionszzzzzzz are ridiculously thin along the D line - not just at rush end. Grady Jackson was a nice addition, but he's like 36 and has never been known for great conditioning. Drafting some guy from a college 95% of the country has never heard of is not the answer.

But then again they're thin at LB, weak at DB and LOL in general. I hope they sign dozens of street free agents and cuts in order to find somebody, anybody, who can play a little.

I think the Lions had Pettigrew 6th on their board. When everything is a need I can't really blame them for going best available player there.

I don't buy it. I stand by Stafford as a great QB prospect. Will he struggle in his first year? Of course. He won't have Matt Ryan type of numbers. Matt Ryan is a freak of nature and his rookie season represented that. Here are some more realistic rookie seasons from some #1 overall QB picks:

Troy Aikman (1989) - 11 GS, 155/293 (52.9%), 1749 yards, 9 TDs/18 INTs, 55.7 RTG - Record: 0-11
Peyton Manning (1998) - 16 GS, 326/575 (56.7%), 3739 yards, 26 TDs/28 INTs, 71.2 RTG - Record: 3-13
John Elway (1983) - 10 GS, 123/259 (47.5%), 1663 yards, 7 TDs/14 INTs, 54.9 RTG - Record: 4-6

Two of them are Hall of Famers and one is a lock to become one.

Lesson: Don't let a harsh a couple of harsh seasons early darken you.
