If we can move him for a 1st round pick this off season, cap hit be damned, they need to do it. 2019 will be an audition from Fromm/Tua to see who we select #1 overall.

Stafford is already better than the average first round pick. The last "sure thing" first rounder was Andrew Luck, who at this point in his career is at best a marginal improvement over Stafford when healthy. There are teams that are in desperate need of any QB talent, and the Lions aren't one of them. They will be better off drafting a 2nd+ rounder to develop as a backup if Stafford can't return to his previous form.

In funnier news, Calvin Johnson was just denied a permit to start a grow operation in Michigan, over what sounds like some pretty BS reasons. From what I had heard, his regular enjoyment of the devil's lettuce, along with the financial hit he would have to take to shore up the contract he left on, were the main reasons he stayed retired despite getting the itch to return. I'm hoping the state comes to their senses and lets him get in on this new industry and keeps him in Michigan.

For you hopeless saps like me, Pride of Detroit has an article listing all the things needed for the Lions to still make the playoffs. Apparently the 4-8 chargers snuck into the Playoffs 10 years ago, so all hope is not lost.

So we have just as good a chance to playoff as to get the #1 overall pick.

That feels about right!

What the *** is all this trash? Luck only Marginally better than Stafford? I think you've been hitting the lettuce a little too hard.

There's 5 other QBs who have been with their teams at least 10 seasons like Stafford..... the other 5 all have MINIMUM 4 playoff wins. Stafford has zero. It's hilarious that there are cucks still amongst this fanbase protecting him still, making excuses, thinking he still might be the answer.

Tomorrow is the most important game for our franchise in a LONG long time. If we lose, we slide into the #4 draft position, with a showdown with Buffalo the following week. If we win, we can fall all the way down to the 13th pick if things don't go our way.

There aren't enough words to describe how insanely bad we need to lose this game.

Yeah, sorry for being a homer and rooting for this team in a down year. As fans we clearly have different desires for this team, whatever.

As for the Luck vs. Stafford comparison, I stand by it. You can get hung up on the QB wins "stat" if you want. I get it, but as for the rest:

Luck TD/INT 164/80. Stafford 234/129.
Rating 89.1 to 88.4
Both are at 7.15 per attempt.

On paper they are like the same QB. Honestly, flip a coin, I'd take either one.

Of those other 5 (I count 6) QB's to play for 10 years, 3 of them are already among the conversations of the best to play all time (Brady, Brees, Rodgers). There are 3 others who are likely hall of famers. (Big Ben, Eli, Rivers). Eli and Ben are only there because they each have 2 superbowls. On paper, they are in the same league as Stafford there too.

I'm not out here claiming Stafford is the savior of this franchise and going to lead them to the promised land. He clearly hasn't lived up to the hype we hoped for after his first 3 years. But he is better than the average first round draft pick. If you were going to try and win a Super Bowl in the next couple years, I would much rather start with Stafford than go into the draft hoping to hit it big.

I’m also on the loss all year train now

I’ve read the last few post and here is my response.

Luck. Infinity >

Stafford

Even mentioning Luck in the same sentence as. Stafford is such disrespect. See what i did that? That well timed period.

koss.....Stafford makes 27 ****in mill dude... There's a formula here to winning. Get a young QB on a rookie deal, and you have a great chance in his first 4-5 years of winning it all if he's legit, because you have so much extra money to funnel to other positions.

We gotta sit here and watch this dopey, country boy, awww shucks routine from him after every loss. **** out of here.

You don't have to be a level zero fan tho. You're not 8 years old anymore.

So what's your point? The way Stafford's contract is structured, even if they move him he counts as a heavy hit against their cap for 2 more years. So all that "extra" money you save by having a rookie QB is wasted as dead cap space. If you draft one this year you've wasted two years of your 4 year rookie QB window. That also assumes you hit on a young QB. 1st round draft picks have about a 50% success rate at best?

I'm also not convinced the problems are all him. For whatever reason they are incapable of running anything that even resembles an NFL offense right now. I can't say for 100% that Patricia has made this offense worse, but it certainly feels that way. JBC was supposed to be a more aggressive play caller favoring a more downfield passing attack, which was largely what their offense looked like the last couple years. Yesterday Stafford threw for 101 yards. Let that number sink in. 101. Many of the plays were designed quick throws and screens to... *checks notes* ... Bruce Ellington. WTF? It's like they've forgotten they have Kenny Golladay on the team. The biggest passing gain on the day was a play that drew a PI call.

I will actually feel bad for JBC if he gets fired after this year. After some decent wins early on the season when the offense was efficient and balanced, the only thing that explains the playcalling the last 5 weeks is actively trying to tank. I dont know how else you justify handing the ball to Theo Riddick on 3rd and 6, or running Legarette Blount into a wall on 2nd and 10.

It looks like they will have a good draft pick next year. I have no idea if they are as bad as they have looked, or have completely phoned in this season. This has been a weird season, even for a franchise whose history is punctuated by weird seasons. This one definitely feels like an inflection point. I just cant tell if they are more like the 2007 team that started 6-2 and lost 26 straight, or the 2010 team that went from 6-10 to 11-5.

The Lions just beat the Packers 31-0 in Lambeau week 17 in a game where both teams had nothing to play for. That is a sentence I really didn't expect to be writing when the season started. So what did we learn today? The Packers are really bad. That's pretty much it. I'd like to say I have renewed confidence in this team going into the offseason, but I've seen this show before. I'm not entirely sure how this happened. JBC is probably fired tomorrow, whatever. It is what it is. Hopefully the offense is much better next year.

At least now I can start paying attention to the draft. I don't know much about whose coming out, and the combine isn't for a couple months, but we can talk needs.

Edge - Everyone thought they were going there last year and didn't. Ansah is likely gone, as someone will take a gamble on him, and I don't think it will be Detroit. They cobbled together a decent edge rush this year, but you could use a big playmaker here. A lot of mock drafts I'm seeing have them tacking one.

CB - Outside of Slay the CB play has been downright awful. Lawson is below average and Tabor is 100% pure busto. Mike Ford has shown enough to deserve a second look, but like DE they could use some more top talent here. I've seen LSU corner Greedy Williams mocked in round 1.

OG - Is Lang done? If so, they could go here in rd. 1

WR - Tate left a big hole. The spare parts were downright awful until today, but that's unlikely to matter much. Outside of Golladay and Marvin Jones (who I've also seen as a potential cap casualty) I don't care if they keep anyone. Using a high pick here could make sense.

TE - Toilolo looked good IMO, but if they want a stud here, they will have to use a pick.

QB - Have they lost confidence in Stafford and want to draft some competition? Probably not.

OLB - They didn't get much production out of this position this year, other than Kennard who plays 85% of his snaps as a DE. Patricia's defense uses these guys in that hybrid type role. Do they want a stud here? Maybe.

More to come later. This season sucked.

Another mind bending loss for the franchise.

They cannot do anything right.

Instead of picking 5-6 we will be 9-10. Great win guys.

I can only imagine what trying to tank in this game would have looked like. They would have had to tell Stafford to intentionally miss throws. But yeah, it was obvious they were trying to play for the moral victory when they had Prater throw the fake FG TD.

For the 2nd season in a row they ran their most creative play in a meaningless game. I wonder which team will win the SB copying it this year.

Or just punt every down and never ru an offensive play. Probably not going to happen though. While I do enjoy a high draft pick, take some solace on this:

But going from 5 to 9 in every round is a real thing. It will make your team worse.

100% with the hip - that was a dumb win. I saw a ton of fans super excited in the lions subreddit, and i get it, F the packers. I don't live in Michigan/Wisconsin and don't have close Packer friends or co-workers so shutting them out in a game that didn't matter didn't do much for me.

It's nice that we landed with the best pick out of the 6-10 teams, that helps some. I'm not sure how tie-breakers would have played out if we went 5-11, anyone know? I guess it's possible we'd be drafting at 8 either way.

It doesn’t matter, they’re the Lions and would **** it up regardless of position.

They’ll probably draft another TE.
