Sizemore out of WBC due to some groin soreness.

Link

Can't say I am disappointed about this. We need a healthy Grady, ldo. Might have gone to some early Spring games if I knew Grady would be around but whatevs.

If I lived back home still I would certainly be planning to see some Columbus games. That team is gonna be sick.

Fausto looking good today, btw.

I guess I just assumed Garko would be splitting time (like 40/60) with Shoppach, especially since he's already played some preseason games in LF. It seems pretty ******ed to keep Shoppach instead of dealing him, then not start him at least half the time when his only competition (for now) is Garko.

We should take the division, though I'm pretty damn worried about the starting pitching. That bullpen is sexxxxxxxxxxxy, though.

I doubt the market was very hot for Shoppach, plus teams know that it was mainly a fluke in 2008. Still, Victor's proving himself to be incapable of playing catcher four times a week without dying, so we need him until Santana is ready - at which point, Victor will be gone anyway. I'm not concerned with that. I am concerned about the starting pitching and the corner outfielders, as always.

I'm in for the game. Last time I sat in the bleachers, Albert Belle was playing.

PSA: Tribe is on MLB Network's 30 Teams in 30 Days on March 16. 1 hour show previewing the 2009 Indians.

I got tickets for 2 Tribe Spring away games, if anyone else is going to Cactus League: @ Giants on March 27 and @ Cubs on March 29.

Bump for this show tonight. Probably not much new if you have been following ST on Let's Go Tribe and elsewhere but nice to see an hour dedicated to the Tribe.

Kobayashi looks to be on a short leash. Wedge appears to be losing patience with him. Scott Lewis is having a good spring and might be in the discussion for 5th starter with Laffey and Sowers, who has been hot and cold this spring. Pavano says he feels better than he has in years.

I'm going to be in Cleveland for three days in May and have tickets to all three NYY@CLE games. I'll be coming back to this thread later on to ask for some advice on what to do while I'm there.

I'm as big of a Cleveland sports optimist as the next guy, but I don't think 83-79 is gonna win the division. Even though the Central is so evenly matched I still think it's gonna take at least 90 wins to get it done.

bp has them at 86-76 now if that makes you feel any better.

At least 90? I agree that 83 probably wouldn't get it done, but 90 seems pretty damn safe to me. This division is pretty crappy.

I doubt it'll happen, but I'd still feel a lot better if we were able to pull off a trade for a good starter. Shapiro is the most underrated GM in baseball, but I think he tends to rely a bit too much on quantity over quality. I like that we have depth at SP, but having Cliff Lee and ten 4th/5th starters doesn't make me very confident. Even if Fausto bounces back and Westbrook gets healthy by mid-season, I'd feel a lot better if we could add a solid/good/great pitcher. Even without giving up Santana or LaPorta, we have the ammunition to go get a big-name guy like Halladay or Oswalt, but I just don't think Shapiro is willing to deal 3-4 young players to get that big arm.

Riccardi absolutely, positively, does not want to deal Halladay. Under any circumstances.

Oswalt is a giant redneck and won't leave the state. The owner loves him.

Both would be great trade acquisitions, but neither are attainable.

Agreed, though I think Halladay is more attainable than JP is making it out to be. Shapiro isn't the type to trade a bunch of young players for him, though. As you said, Oswalt isn't going anywhere, though it makes no sense for them to hold onto him (or anyone else) because they're a horrible team with no farm and no future. It sucks...he'd be awesome in Cleveland.

There really aren't many other options available. Peavy wouldn't accept a deal to Cleveland. Harang is interesting, but he'd be due 3/38 if he gets traded, so that's kinda gross. Other than him, who else is even available? Paul Byrd, Vicente Padilla, and Odalis Perez? Maybe our awesome bullpen can just throw five innings each night...

This isn't true. Not that Shapiro isn't willing, but what is your proposed 3 C+/B- prospects for ace type deal?
