deadline is Jul 31, but I would think Soriano would clear waivers so they could deal him any time. I'm not really sure why we want to pay a bunch of money so he can do what he's doing for someone else. He ain't blockin anyone and he's having a pretty good year. Unless we can get some actual talent for him, what would be the point?
well that's the sticking point. what are they going to get for him? maybe not much, but maybe somebody is willing to give up a mid level prospect at the deadline.
your point of having to pay his salary no matter what is a valid one. but that's a sunk cost. if they keep him through the life of the contract they get absolutely nothing. even a ****ty prospect is better than nothing.
and since he's not part of the long term plan, why not get what you can, even if it amounts to a bucket of baseballs.
Soriano at 2-3 mil a year is a very good deal. Especially for an AL team. If the cubs are indeed picking up the vast majority of the contract, they should be able to get something of value in return.
Jackson has been struggling. He's now hitting 5th in the lineup. He strikes out over 1/3 of the time. Oddly, he hits much better against LHP with like a 900 OPS. Vitters has been doing pretty well of late. He still is pretty impatient, but nowhere near what he has been in the past. He has around an 850 OPS overall. I would think he would get a look in September.
13-5 w/ Rizzo now. Our defense is pretty sick right now with Rizzo, Barney, and Castro all gold glove type players. Our pitchers, outside of Garza, have even stopped embarrassing themselves. We're a fun team to watch right now for a change. Could get ugly again though if Garza, Demp, and Maholm all get traded. I would think someone would like a guy like Camp as well.
i kinda feel guilty bringing it up again, but wtf are you talking about gold gloves? you have to know castro is still a net negative defender. i mean he's got the potential but he's not even close yet. rizzo is a first baseman so wgaf about defense and he's only played like 60 career games anyway. barney is a replacement level player.
maybe you completely over value defense? or maybe you only watch the cubs and don't see that there are much better defenders in the league?
really not trying to be a dick here, but it's like you and i are watching two completely different defensive teams.
if you think that going forward, he's a net negative defender, then you are wrong. If you still think you are right, we can wager lots of dollars on it.
