I don't love it either, but if it doesn't work, he'll be gone along with Lovie after next season, so meh. It's not like anyone vastly better would want to come into a situation with this offense, a lame-duck coach, and an unknown GM.

Yeah, I'm fine with it. Ungoliant more or less spells it out 100% right.

Re: Chicago Bears - CUTLAHHHHH!
From reports it seems like Tice & Cutler were collaborating on the offense during the 5 game winning streak and then forcing Martz to put it in the gameplan. It's one of the reasons why Martz wanted out.

Re: Chicago Bears - CUTLAHHHHH!
One thing i could kind of see is that player input will be valued by Tice. Martz was steel rigid in his offense but i could see tice being more player friendly.
As far as Oline, Tice deserves some respect for making them at least serviceable along the way with cutler back there. Once the backup was in it was 8 in the box all day and just trying to plug leaks on a sinking ship.

If this is true, I'm far more on board with this idea.
Ultimately though, if you don't have the horses, it doesn't matter who's calling the shots. Jay still needs a #1 WR and some better protection, hopefully both areas that'll be addressed in the offseason.

I heard on NFL radio today opinions that the Martz offense was getting Cutler killed due to the long developing pass plays he likes to call. Tim Ryan also stated on the air this week that Martz doesn't believe in giving the QB a lot of options to change plays at the line of scrimmage because Martz believes that his plays should work pretty much against any defensive alignment and call. At least for me, Tim Ryan's comments about schemes and such are quite insightful. If this was the case regarding Martz, and I suspect it is, then losing him is addition by subtraction.

Re: Chicago Bears - CUTLAHHHHH!
I'm real happy with the decision, actually. They maintain continuity with the playcalling and the offensive line. His MIN teams threw deep and he said all the right things in his interviews today. Having a playcaller who looks at things from the perspective of the blocking schemes is fine by me. It's not like they're gonna find 2 starters on the OL in the offseason. The real question is which WR we should target. VJax seems like fool's gold, while he would be perfect for opening up the field he's got a lot of WIL. Wayne is probably the safest play but I never watched the Colts this year. Is he done or did they just suck? Cause he could teach the young guys and Wayne, Knox, Bennett is ok (I guess, maybe)
edit:
I guess I'm biased though because on paper the Bears' oline sucks and I give Tice a lot of credit for the alchemy he's performed over the years. Thank god angelo is gone... I'll be glad to finally draft linemen from major conferences. Always reaching at one of the hardest positions to fill is just lolstupid.

He's always been too ****ing stubborn. In his mind he always sees the '99 Rams running his plays... it's a problem.

Just saw Tice an hour ago when I was having dinner with the wife at one of my local watering holes.... never realized what a house he was until seeing him in person... gotta be 6'6" and 300+.

Re: Chicago Bears - CUTLAHHHHH!
One of these free agents must be signed:
Demetrius Bell; was very solid at LT for the bills this year
Carl Nicks; the saints have to pay brees and already have invested a ton in their other superstar G jahri evans, so its possible he could be lured away
Ben Grubbs, Chris Myers; both these guys will prob resign with their respective teams but are obv worth it to the bears
Kareem Mckenzie; very solid RT
Also sign a good free agent WR and TE. The free agent market is full of quality for both this year, it shouldn't be too hard to pick up both. I'd go after Colston, Cutluh needs a nice big body receiver who can go up for the ball downfield, its a pretty perfect fit imo.

You should try getting a #1 QB first. Matt Flynn should be available (unless the Packers franchise him).
And to answer the other question, I thought it was undebatable that Lovie should be fired, as he is almost as bad as Chilly. Unless he magically got much better this year, he should absolutely be gone too. The few trick plays the Bears ran against the Packers this year (on punt returns) were pretty slick but other than that most Packer fans just pray you keep him around as coach like the Vikings used to keep Chilly around.
Lovie is bad, really bad. And I'm not trying to piss you off there, I thought it was general consensus he is a bottom 5 coach.
