This sucks. I think it's pretty clear that Beckett had no motive to throw at Abreu's head. I didn't see the pitch but did he even throw it hard? Prob just tried tossing it in and screwed up because he's not used to slowing his arm down like that.

this is a slap in the face not only to beckett, accusing him of being a headhunter, but also to the umpiring crew, calling them essentially incompetent. they've set a pretty horrible precedent here, if you whine and disrupt the game enough, you can get a guy suspended who wasnt even ejected.

my point is, you have the crew chief (who happens to be the president of the umpire union) say in his press conference after the game that they determined beckett wasnt throwing at abreu, and decided not to eject him based on that. watson suspends him because the situation gets ugly. the message, apparently, if you whine enough and if your manager disrupts the game enough, you can get a guy suspended who wasnt seen to have done anything wrong by the umpires.

I disagree zero. I think the umps just got it wrong in this case. It happens man. I was also surprised beckett didn't just stay near the mound and let abreu yap at him. Seems he has a short temper.

In the moment it would be difficult to determine what Beckett was doing, it's totally understandable he wasn't ejected. Once you have the opportunity to review the tape, I think it's pretty obvious that Beckett threw at him and I'm not surprised he got suspended. I wonder if any of Boston's position players have said anything to him about it, they can't support that kind of conduct, especially this early in the season.

I just turned this game on with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Holliday struck out on three called strikes that all were off the plate. Top tenth, the strike zone shrunk dramatically.

If we lose this game, we can't blame the umps for it.

Hey, is the Boston broadcast never on XM? I just switched from Sirius, and while other games often feature the broadcast from both cities, I haven't seen a Boston broadcast listed yet.

if i'm not mistaken, they use the home team's announcing crew. if not, its just random. i've definitely listened to the red sox broadcast on xm.

A lot of teams would love to have a guy that good as their worst reliever.

Bullpen gave up 1 R in 11 IP, 13 k. Don't blame this one on the bully.

it definitely wasnt the bullpens fault. when a guy walks 3 guys in extra's, its hard to find someone else to fault.

jd drew is so unclutch. of course he'd hit a 3-run homer right before the sox bats light up. Probably would have struck out otherwise. Nice of the offense to show up for once.
