They have a good problem to have now with too many starters. Eddie, Buchholz, Pomeranz and Wright to fight for 2 spots. Feel like the most likely scenarios are Buchholz being traded or Pomeranz moved to the bullpen. Feel really good about the pitching staff as a whole going into the season. Anyone know the timetable on Carson Smiths recovery?
Mid-June is what I saw on Carson.

Best part of the Sale deal is he makes less than Buchholz

Clay trade seems smart, even if we got nothing for him.

Is Lauber like a personal friend of Clay's?

Almost every season, the wafer-thin right-hander with the wispy goatee was as good as any starter in the American League for a stretch of 50 to 75 innings -- even longer in 2010 and 2013.

And without that eight-start stretch this August and September when he returned to the rotation and went 4-0 with a 2.98 ERA, the Red Sox wouldn't have won the AL East as easily as they did, if at all.
I'm glad he had a pretty good stretch to make his overall season suck slightly less, but that does not mean you can just sit him on the bench & bring him in whenever to give you 50-75 good innings on call.

As it stands now, if the sox reach a point next season where they could have used buchholz for an extended period then things have gone very wrong

No surgery needed, just going to take like 10 days off & see how it goes. Excellent news.

Looking forward to Benintendi being Fred Lynn 2.0 - ROY & MVP.

He already has Lynn's swing.

Hard to say. Sox are 4 games up in the AL East, Sale is delivering, Kimbrel's other-worldly, yet all over Boston, it's "let's talk about the Celtics' offseason."

Not to mention that in 3 weeks or so, Pats talk will escalate again.

I don't know why, but I struggle to care about baseball the way I used to. Not sure if it's everything else going on in life now, but even when the Sox are on here I watch through really fast. Read the box scores & check out a few articles, but that's it.

Maybe people will get into it at playoff time if all goes to plan.

I watch probably half of their games. They're doing well so I feel like I should be more into it, but it just seems to lack an energy that was there during the Papi era. Idk

I don't disagree. I find I enjoy talking about baseball much more than I enjoy watching baseball.

Think that was the most stinging series loss of the season. Lose 3 of 4 with the 3 losses being a Sale start and good starts from Price and Porcello.

Didn't love the pomeranz deal at the time. I believed the hype with espinosa and thought it was risky tradofor a guy having a career year and already at or close to his career high for innings. I think that showed down the stretch last season but this year he's been really good and making me eat my words.

Not to mention that Espinoza has yet to pitch this year.

I've watched ~ 65 % of the Bosox games this year and Pomeranz has been a blessing, but he still always seems like he can collapse at any moment so I'm holding off on Pomerania for now.
I applaud the Bosox for eating Pablo's contract and dumping him. What a disgrace. I know they don't want to rush Devers, but if Holt doesn't shore up 3rd base, it might be the only option.
With the mind boggling lack of power and pitching injuries , albeit relievers and back end starters , it's amazing they are in this position. The division is starting to look much worse than most thought it would. It's going to be an interesting 2h fo sho.

Drives me nuts how saves dictate RP usage. Up two, saving Kimbrel for the 9th when the heart of the order is due up in the 8th already seems like a leak. Once there's 2 on 0 out, not going to Kimbrel is inexcusable. Then it went bases jacked with still 0 out and still nothing. Nope, couldn't use a bunch of strikeouts here.

Part of that is Kimbrel isn't it? He doesn't want to do anything but close with a clean sheet.

Also Jonny Gomes is brutal.

Guess so. **** Kimbrel then

Gomes I thought was better than the guy that did the West coast trip. Doesn't say much though.
