they seem to have these innings that spiral out of control WAY WAY too often. super ugly.

Brad Bergeson was looking so good last season. He hasn't had a good outing once this season.

the problem with bergesen is that he is a soft tosser. he prob isnt going to strikeout a ton of guys, so he needs to have superb control. by this i mean hitting his spots - not just not walking batters. he has walked batters this year and he hasnt been hitting his spots and he's been getting raked. 4 hrs in 10 innings doesnt help either. clearly needs to have better control to have any chance of success.

I was cleaning up my room.

I saw my O's hat on the ground and a dead stinkbug inside of it.

Clearly, the orioles STINK.

this is turning really ugly. Usually I feel this dejected in mid May or June. April 21st is a record

A friend of mine and I won two tickets to the 1988 opener at a bar the night before the game. We both blew off work the next afternoon and headed up to Memorial Stadium on a gorgeous early April day.

The game started out normally with Teddy Higuera and Mike Boddicker settling into what most anticipated as a pitchers duel between the two staff aces from the prior year.

Mid game Boddicker began to struggle. In the 5th inning with Paul Molitor on 3rd, Boddicker chose to intentionally walk a Brewers batter whose name escapes me. With runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs and an 0-2 count to strikeout maker Rob Deer, the Brewers executed a double steal with Molitor racing home. The level of incompetence that the Orioles showed on this play is the primary reason I remember it 22 years later.

The team unravelled at this point and went on to lose 12-0 and begin a stretch of historic futility. Everything that a bush league team does was on display that day from weak hitting, poor baserunning, indecisive defense and an incompetent bullpen. For some reason I felt that this one play, though, in what was still a close game was the spark that pushed a vulnerable team over the edge.

This is one of the most depressing things I've ever read.

yeah, and it was worse since the red sox were pretty good.

it was a weird season, like 5 teams finished within 4 games of first in the AL East. the orioles had some of the worse performances in the history of baseball. i dont think anyone could ever equal billy ripken's incompetance at the plate, if they tried to (and this was over a large sample). pretty difficult to get into 150 games, and 500+ at bats when you are that awful. sadly he wasn't unique in his "accomplishments". they also had possibly the worse bench ever assembled. this team had to have played most of their games hungover, or possibly drunk.

Does this team have what it takes to lose two more games to a team that also appears to be struggling?

+1

He's ****ing ass.

Nice 3 run 9th, too bad it was meaningless. At least I'm happy they scored 6 runs. Is that a record this season?

God Matuez is going to be so damn good in the bigs. 2nd time this season he had a baller outing only to start slipping in the later innings. Of coruse, our BP ****ed up both times.

Yeah, when Izturis had that error I thought the game was going to be over. Also, **** you Mark Texieararer with your .115 batting average and swinging at the first pitch and singling.

That ball, FWIW, took a sick bounce right as he was about to field it.

Obviously, it's still all good cause he had a sick game offensively.
