Hey, stfu. We have a good lineup, some good young pitchers who've been giving us chances to win games and some good young hitters. GOGOGO!

This is if they can stay healthy and their young pitching improves. Otherwise they may end up being relegated to the International League with the Durham Bulls being promoted to the AL East.

I think you might be giving the Blue Jays a little too much credit.

I don't blame Orioles fans for hating, they have to put up with the Orioles for 6 months a year, something that would probably drive me insane, if listening to Anita Marks' opinions didn't get to me first.

Yeah Baltimore's offense has a lot of young talent, but their Starting Pitching is way up in the air, and their bullpen is usually reliable, but who knows anymore since they seem to fire-sale it every 1-2 years. I think it's evident that the Orioles just can't commit to winning, seeing as their attendance sucks and they can't generate revenue like other bigger-market teams. It's really kind of a shame for a franchise with such a storied history.

Also, in before Cole tells me how good Brad Bergesen is.

Roberts, Jones, Wieters, Markakis, Reimold, Scott, Atkins(filler for Bell), Random 1B(Filler for Snyder), Izturis

Yeah I didn't realize they got Atkins. I've always been a fan of his, if he can hit like he should than that lineup is pretty sick, especially if he's hitting 5th or 6th. Weiters is a bit of a question mark imo, this will probably be the first time he's played this many games in any form of baseball, and being a catcher won't help that. Being in the AL helps this a little though, they can DH him every once in awhile.

Good to see that the Orioles have already reached late season form. Anti clutch hitting and another pitching effort from Johnny Holstaff in a low scoring game that comes up just short.

If this team needs 5 pitchers to give up only 4 runs they will blow through 25 pitchers by the All Star break.

Brad Bergesen is going to dominate. But not as much As Matusz will.

It was pretty dissapointing. 1-12 RISP is ****ing terrible. We should have been ahead by at least 5 more runs before the 9th. I was so happy when Gonzalez struck out the first batter, I was like yessss, he could be good!
Then he **** himself.

Millwood looked great though. I thought it was a pretty well pitched game up until the 9th. Roberts was butthole last night.

I'm actually pretty hopeful for this season.

I couldn't find the damn thread I started so I was about to create a new one but someone bumped this. TYVM.

I know that it is just one game and early in the season, at that, but if last night was Millwood looking great the Orioles are not going to be able to afford much of a dropoff. 20 pitches per inning and 9 hits over 5 innings would seem to be less than great. At 35 he seems to have lost a noticeable amount from his younger fastball as well.

You make a good point. I should have said he gave us a chance to win. That's really all I ask of an orioles starting pitcher.

Roberts should get better, he had like 17 ABs over the entire spring or something, that's not going to help your swing/timing at all. It should help if he can get it going, but the bullpen is going to be a major question mark, even if their starting pitching improves greatly.

Just found this thread.

Millwood looked decent yesterday. Not great, not bad. Hopefully he can build on that outing and remain productive for the entirety of the season.

We did a **** job of manufacturing runs. 3 runs on 3 HRs with ~10 men left on base. I don't think we had a base hit with RISP. We CAN'T keep doing that if we want to contended/improve.

Albers looked solid. Hope that's a sign of things to come.

Last, and most certainly least, Gonzalez looked like ****. I really hope he turns it around and becomes the solid closer he's shown in the past. Having closer issues again is the last thing I want to see this season.

Bleh, another dissapointing loss. After the 1st Garza pitched really really well. Not too much we coulda done about that I guess.

Longoria is a monster. Nuff' said about that. Maybe we should think about pitching around this kid?

Something I've noticed over the 1st 2 games was Roberts swinging at 1st pitches. He did it in his 1st AB of the season and he did it in the last AB in todays game. Very very uncharacteristic of B-Rob. He's def not in sync. Hopefully repetitions fixes this.

And lastly... we still need to get hits with RISP. This MUST change... if not, say hello to another absurdly long season.

EDIT: Oh yea, I thought all in all Guthrie pitched pretty well tonight. Just like Millwood last night, hopefully this is a decent sign of things to come.

WEEEEEEEEEEEE, FIRST WIN IN THE BOOKS!

I didn't get a chance to start watching todays game until the bottom of the 4th because I lost track of time and family decided it was a good time to watch a DVD in teh living room.

From what I heard, Brian Matsuz walked the bases loaded early in the game? Not really sure, but he pitched pretty lights out from what I saw. Very impressed. Hopefully he can keep up the good work and become that #1 we've been seraching for by years end!

FINALLY we got some production with RISP and "manufactured" a few runs. It's a good feeling not to have to rely on solo shots to put runs on the board. Very happy with that.

And then there's the bullpen. Ugh. Somehow Albers has been our best RP so far this season. Johnson had a pretty shaky outing today, but I'll give him a pass for that one. Mike Gonzalez, on the other hand, is still a scrub in my book until he proves otherwise. I guess looking at the posatives he DID get the save tonight and didn't completely blow it. Heh. Word on the street is he was a beast in ATL last year and had "NASTY" stuff. I'll believe it when I see it.

In closing, a decent game and a good win. Back to Camden tonight for the home opener vs the Jays tomorrow. Let's go O's!
