We're talking about an extension for Roddy White

He's stated he wants to finish his career in Atlanta. I think he showed a little rust when the injury bug snapped his 133-game streak, but came on strong towards the end.

The organization showed a lot of confidence in him by not drafting a WR this year imo.

I like it, I want him to be a Falcon for life

Looks pretty sweet. Can't wait to watch some soccer games there too.

on Mel Kiper's list of undrafteds that could help:

Atlanta Falcons

James Stone, C

Jeff Matthews, QB

I had Stone as my No. 9 center heading into the draft, and he could provide useful depth. Matthews has good size and a pretty strong arm, but is raw. He could develop into a No. 2.

I don't mind this cross post. In fact, it would probably make sense to have a single Atlanta thread where we can talk Braves/Falcons/Hawkslol/Restaurants/concerts/etc instead of having the conversations separately with the same people.

I'm ready for soccer too. I fully plan on going to the opener and then probably never going again :-)

The qb we signed is from Cornell
http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/po...b-make-falcons

Him (Cornell), Ryan (BC) and Renfree (Duke) could be investment bankers or attorneys or something. Shoutout to dominique davis ECU!

Edit: actually d davis went to BC to start too, I knew he transferred from somewhere nearby also but forgot where. Respect.

Yes he could provide much needed help. They still need to address that line. As is, even with Matthews, that line is not NFL quality. Konz is not NFL caliber starter and barely worthy to backup.

And it's a crying shame it was just a afterthought last season. The line is where the game is won or lost and men of Dimitroff and Smith's experience should know better. Hell even Blank knows as witnessed by his disagreement with Smith over being "tough", especially on the line. Still work to be done on the OL, at least now they're addressing it.

And just cut Jackson already. Waste of money and roster spot.

I really like the 1 ATL thread idea. Maybe we can just get a mod to merge this and the Hawks thread with the Braves one?

there should be a regional forum. with threads for each major metro area. non-heavy poker discussion too about local casinos, keep the serious poker discussion separate.

there's also an atl things to do / places to eat thread out there

I like the 1 ATL thread idea too.

We should probably include the UGA Bulldogs... unless of course it pisses off the like 2 Tech fans we have here

ah forgot about CFB..dunno what to do about that. Hmmm..maybe just include the pro teams? meh. I say include everyone..pro/CFB/whatever. I think it would be epic...and I think the lack of traffic in the non-barves threads warrants it imo.

It'll fit right in for overhyped expectations followed by a disappointing season

Konz was at least serviceable, probably better, as a G his rookie season but yeah, shouldn't be a starting NFL C.

What about how GT starts 5-0 every year but somehow manages to end up with 5 losses. 2 seasons ago before GT's first loss, Iggy was talking Natty...LOLOLOL

I agree with the one ATL/UGA sports thread. Just get mmbt to stop trolling UGA. Hey we might get more in the new combined thread than tech gets to its spring game.

Yeah, must be nice to win 8 games and be satisfied. We may be a bit deluded with higher expectations than reality but at least we can legitimately dream of winning something of value. You know, more than voided lolacc championships.

The only news this time of year is bad news.

Spoon tore his Achilles, done for the 2014 season.

Really sucks for him because this was his contract year.

Guess it's a good thing we drafted a ton of linebackers this year.

The guy officially gets the injury prone tag now. I don't think it was coincidence on the ton of linebackers drafted. Feel like it was them covering the bases, just in case. Still exactly what that soft defense doesnt need.

You probably shouldn't unless you just want to see the Falcons on tv. It's an admission that this is going to be bad team again and they are scrounging for good publicity. They turned the show down in 2011 citing the team "wasnt ready."(whatever the **** that means) Which is a load of BS because the show is a distraction and good teams don't do it because of that reason.

Sigh, welcome to 8-8 at best.

Roddy White signs a 4-year extension through the 2018 season. Terms not immediately available.

He's 33 now, so that contract could get messy towards the end. But the dude has played every game since he was drafted until an injury forced him to sit down. He keeps himself in good shape, and I think he'll definitely be productive in the near term as long as he's fully healthy.

Glad to see him finishing his career in Atlanta.

A nugget I picked up reading these insufferable previews:

The long-term contract for Sam Baker stops carrying guaranteed base salaries after this coming season. That means he can be released as early as next season for no cap penalty. Not that I want to get rid of him, but I think it's pretty obvious Jake Matthews is the blind-side tackle of the future.

Good to know

In for a great season! What's up fellas?

SJax can't stay healthy. Can we cue the Freeman/Quizz era? I've personally always been high on Quizz if we can find the right complement to his skill set.

Curious to see how Matt Ryan progresses this season with his security blanket Gonzo gone. Appears team is more focused on having a bunch of blocking TE's on the roster. Would like to see Harry Douglas become more of a focal point in certain situations this season because defenses will completely forget about him concerned with the duo of White/Julio all year. I know it's tough to not always look Julio or Roddy's way, but Matt had some chances to get the ball to a wide open Douglas in a few key situations last year and he went with the wrong read or forced something to one of duo.

Not entirely sure where to set my expectations for the season though, where are you guys at? Eye test, schedule looks reasonably tough.
