I'm sure the people on the Braves boards would trade Heyward for Cabrera given the opportunity, considering Heyward's ceiling is pretty much becomming a Cabrera-type player according to scouting reports.

I just think they get kind of delusional about other top prospects in the system, and feel that a package of 2-3 lesser prospects would get the job done.

I would be all over bringing Cabrera to ATL for Heyward, though I'm not sure adding Freeman to that deal is very smart, especially when there is so much talented pitching in the system. I doubt many teams could compete with a package of Heyward, Medlen, and Locke if the Tigers get serious about moving Cabrera and the Braves have interest.

How big is Cabrera's contract? Does he still have weight issues (such as he gained like 30-40 pounds the last couple of years). I'd probably do it but early baseball contracts are a god send to a team.

As shocking as it sounds I'd say it was 60/40 from people who wouldn't trade Heyward for Cabrera if given the chance from the sound of things. I guess people are afraid of a repeat of the Tex situation, which this isn't since Cabrera is locked up long term. It's all a pipedream anyway since I doubt the Tigers move Cabrera but it just shows how delusional a lot of people are over there.

capone0 - I think Cabrera is locked up through 2016 at $19 million a year. Also, I haven't seen the Tigers player but apparently he's in better shape and his 1B defense looks better this year.

I'm pretty sure the Braves front office would SNAP call a package of Heyward + Prospects for Cabrera if the Tigers are selling come deadline time. He'd make for a hell of a long-term "changing of the guard" plan for Chipper, or just take over at 1st without looking back.

If it becomes known that Cabrera's available, though, I think other, more desperate, and larger market teams than us would put together a better offer.

Let there be no debate: At the very least, Cabrera is a top-3 talent in the majors RIGHT NOW and for the foreseeable future.

Who do you think proposes, and which side blinks first at Heyward + Hanson for Cabrera straight up?

God 19 a year would really cap strap us although I guess they are trying to spend a little on FA this off-season. He would eat up what 1/3rd to 1/4th of the cap while Heyward is a cheaper, but less known option.

I kind of feel like winning that 2nd 1 run game in a row meant a whole lot more than it actually did. When Gonzalez held in the 9th I felt like the Braves just clinched the division or something.

Just thought I'd stop by to say our hitting SUCKS, our bullpen SUCKS, and I'm only mildly enamoured with our starting pitching so far. I feel good about Lowe/Vazquez/JJ, but I'm not so sure about Kawakami/Reyes/whomever.

McCann coming back will help... but it sure looks like Kotchman just isn't getting any better at this point.

Everybody seems to love Kelly Johnson as a gritty little guy, but he sucks defensively and sure is in a rut right now.

I'd be okay with Infante/Prado taking over long-term at 2B.

And I'm glad to see Matt Diaz playing nearly every day.

From this article on ESPN:

"If on-base percentage is so important, then why don't they put it up on the scoreboard?" Francoeur says.

yep, gonna be a long year - we look like a 3rd/4th place team at best right now.

Braves without McCan and/or Chipper is just a bad offensive lineup. Even with them both, it's a mediocre lineup.

Of course, Bobby Cox is a ****ing moron and doesn't play Kelly Johnson and wants to play Omar Infante instead. Don't even get me started at batting Garrett Anderson cleanup.

I love that we run sooooooooooooo hot vs. Johan.

We have to sweep them now that we've gotten past him, right?

Did we really win a 1-run game on the road?!?!?

Okay, I'll say it since it needs to be said:

Trade "David Eckstein Jr." for prospects and play Prado at 2B full-time.

Who is David Eckstein Jr? If you mean Kelly Johnson I'm going to go on life tilt.

Also, Bobby Cox has turned into a ****ing moron.

Finally, 6-2 on the road trip is just what the doctor ordered.

Should have been 7-1. Can't believe they lost last night. Up 3-0 in the 8th.......

Dude's a .273 career hitter and he sucks at defense.

I like that he hustles and all but come on, david eckstein sucked in his heyday too.

Trade him for prospects, and play Prado/Infante for the rest of this year imo.

That hitting .270 isn't very good...

It'd be different if your .270-hitting 2nd baseman played great defense.

But he doesn't.

He doesn't look to me like he's getting much better anyway.

He's also put up an OPS+ of 106 in almost 1500 AB's. He also had 57 extra base hits in 614 AB's last year.

Ecstein has an OPS+ of 88 in his career, has never put up an OPS+ of over 101 and his season high for XBH's is like 36.

Horrible comparison.

If Bobby would get his head out of his ass he'd stop yanking Kelly around and let him get everyday AB's. Of course he lets Jeff Francoeur and his 71 OPS+ start every day and Garret Andreson bat ****ing cleanup so I have no idea wtf he's thinking anymore.

1. .270 is above average
2. What does it matter what his batting average is?
3. His defense has been fine so far this season.

Agree that Garrett Anderson has no business in a major league lineup, much less at cleanup.

Also agree that Bobby must have a homoerotic man-crush on Frenchy to have stuck with him for this long.

I guess I'll agree to disagree on KJ... I still haven't forgiven him for that botched pop-up that cost us a game against the Phillies last year.

KJ is sort of an odd case because it seems like he has a two week period where he hits the cover off the ball and then he'll have a two week period where it looks like he's never seen a baseball before.

It's just really pathetic to me that we have to figure out a way to get Prado and Infante AB's in LF and RF. Heaven forbid we spent money on Dunn or Abreu instead of Kawakami, Glavine, or Anderson.

Had tix for todays game but didnt bother going because of the rain. It got PPD.

The Braves are finally putting it together (despite last nite's 12-0). Just start winning more home games and they could make a serious run at the division title.

Kamakazi might literally be out of his league here. Schafer needs to learn patience at the plate but that will come with experience.

The bullpen looks better than last month, Soriano and gonzalez usually get it done.

I'm fairly satisfied so far, there's still a lot of baseball to go and they're only 2 games out. A few reasons to be optimistic anyways.
