According to Daily Faceoff and LWL there are many unconfirmed. Where do you get your info?

I use those two mainly also. CHI, CBJ, NSH and MIN has no status so far but will probably be confirmed closer to 4 pm. Most home goalies are confirmed though, which one were you planning to pick or stack on?

Looking at Budaj for cash. Also, 3600 to spend on D what are your thoughts?

If it's on FD:
Nikita Zaitsev
Philip Larsen

If it's on DK
Damon Severson
Justin Schultz
Nikita Zaitsev

All these dmans are projected to play on top powerplay. Larsen doesn't have a point yet and doesn't seem to block/shoot much so far.

Going with Zaitsev. (FD)

Whoa didn't even know this was here. If anyone wants to play some hu for small stakes for brags/funzies add me on dk (gordonbombayobv) and we will get some head to heads going on bigger slates or make a 2p2 group contest?

A small 2p2 group contest would be fun. Mainly a GPP player but would take a swing at HU.

Do you play tournaments?

Yeah was doing that exclusively but now been tossing in half gpps and half head to heads and it seems like free money on big slates

H2H profitable? I've only played it once or twice, all my actions have been GPPs. GPPS on DK have been horrible unless its the $27 or $20 promotion days (Tuesdays usually).

Sure seems like they Are but small sample size. Yeah gpps are pretty high varinece but just takes one bink to be up heaps really.

Try playing on FD, the smaller pools ($3) have a way better prize structure. It's little top heavy but I prefer it over the flat structure at DK

theory q:

if there were no points awarded for goalie wins/shutout, how would you go about picking your goalie?

I assume they get points for just saves and negative points for goals against? Goaltenders like Talbot, Anderson and Dubnyk seems like good options as they face tons of shots and relatively alright SV%

right so more shots the better. even bad goalies will save something like 0.880.

using dk scoring of +0.2 per save and -1 per goal, for each shot they face

0.88 * 0.2 = 0.176
0.12 * -1 = -0.120

so even a bad goalie is +ev in terms of fantasy points gained per shot. the more shots a goalie faces the better in terms of fantasy production.

now in terms of getting the W, a big fav in hockey is around -200 giving them about a (2/3) chance of getting the W. the underdog has a (1/3) chance. so the difference in expectation of getting the win is just

(2/3) * 3 pts = 2
(1/3) * 3 pts = 1

so you give up one pt in expected fantasy points if you make the horrible play of taking the underdog goalie, but if he faces just a few more shots (lets say 5 more shots) than the other goalie, you gain around 0.28 pts back from getting more saves.

i guess my point is that drafting goalies is really hard to screw up because even bad goalies are +ev in terms of fantasy points per save and the impact of giving up your chance of the win is softened by them likely facing more shots than the opposing goalie.

this seems to contradict conventional wisdom is drafting goalie 1st and paying for the W. just drafting the cheapest goalie is almost never much of a mistake while overpaying for a goalie can be.

Really depends on which site you play. For the most part I find DK goalie prices are very similar to each other (starter vs their respective back up) whereas in FD the difference can be 1k-1.5k.

Do you play cash or GPP games?
