Feel like there should be some escalating cost for keeping a player multiple years. Like keeper cost = round picked - years kept. That would also eliminate the need for a max.

I'm good to draft any evening (after 5pm ET) the week of Aug 5-11.

I'd prefer a draft before Aug 5, but if it is after I'd prefer it to be later in the evening

Does the 3 yr max rule include the yr you draft them so you can keep them twice or can you actually keep them for the next 3 seasons?

I like the idea of an escalating cost, but I'd vote to keep a max of 2 (or 3) extra yrs.

The max years is in place since there is no escalating cost. I think it has to be one or the other, not both. Personally I prefer escalating costs as it avoids all of the hypothetical situations that arise with max years.

yeah ok, i agree it would help solve some of the problems being brought up...

we could have another vote:

1. keepers are 3 year max- same round draft pick cost (no change if traded, keeper doesnt reset)

2. no max years on keepers, 1st year=same round taken, 2nd year -1 spot and so fourth....

ie 7th round pick in first year =u lose 7th round pick, in second year if u kept same player he would be worth a 6th round pick...

*if u kept a first round player, the second year he would automatically go back into draft pool

** FA would still=8th round in both scenarios...

also we are using reg waivers, it won 7-5...

In this situation I think the two 4th rounders should cost you the third and fourth round picks.

930pm et on the 7th works for me, unless we can do a later draft date. I'm down for whatever though. Saw that's the date/time posted on the league page.

The draft time on ESPN works for me too.

I didn't think we were going to do divisions?

I vote for the round -1 option.

Agree that you can't retain first rounders under that model (or maybe you can retain the first but can only keep 2 players, or maybe your other keepers have a cost of -2 if you retain your first rounder).

I do think a cost of only -1 round per year might make late picks and free agent keepers overvalued. Not sure if I think that's a problem.

It should be 4th and 5th. Owners shouldn't be disincentivized to trade for a player because they already have a potential keeper in that round. Priority no 1 is to encourage action, imo. Although his original draft position should be retained for future years where there isn't a conflict.

I think the cost of -1 round is too little. My preference would be first year player is kept cost is round he was drafted. Second year he is kept the cost is doubled etc... until the cost is first round.

Example: Say you luckboxed cam newton as an FA, this year he would cost you an 8th round pick. year 2 would be 4th, year 3 is 2nd and every year after would be a 1st.

IMO this method provides a balance between keeper turnover and retaining long term value of good drafting.

With just -1 round you could keep a breakout rookie drafted in the 12th round for his entire career. he would be in his prime and only costing a 7-9th round pick. With 3 years max and no cost trade value is significantly affected plus you are only rewarded a couple years for good drafting.

That being said if we can only vote on the two options proposed I prefer the no cost 3 years max.

i like 3 years max, and cost goes up a round every year with or without the option of keeping 1st rounders for first round pick.

I am running a keeper league on ESPN and for the life of me I can't figure out how I can automatically set everyone's keeper so they are auto-drafted in the correct round. Any suggestions are appreciated.

No we are going into the league's second year, so first year we are able to keep players.

It wouldnt let me do that in Baseball. Not sure if football engine is different though. Basically told me only option was to assign keepers with no loss of a round or do the draft offline. This may have changed or be different for Baseball
