Meh, I don't see much point in waiting. If we get 12 people I'd prefer to just run it, I doubt we'll have any issue filling the other league if there are openings.
to point 1, you might be right. i was just looking at our draft and in rd3 and i cant really see a big difference between any of the players value wise. but im also not going to go back and look at who dropped down and how it impacted them because there was a fair amount of trading. my point is just that i dont see it as that meaningful if youre trying to account for the randomness of a snake in a 70 round draft. if were really going to try and account for that, then the full reversal every 3 rounds for the entire draft seems like the way to go

to point 2, if we can get 12 then thats great. but it would take at least a month to draft for it and we're ~6 weeks away from baseball, (not accounting for a baseball rookie draft). i just wouldnt want to rush a draft or find someone last minute just to fill the league who may not really be into it just for the sake of running it.

Okay I get you now, I agree with that.

We wouldn't need software.

All we need is http://www.proboards.com/ to set up the auction.

If you've never used proboards or done a well-run message board draft, I could give you access to a draft I'm doing right now to give you an idea of how they're run. It's a keeper league that is going into it's 4th season. We've never run into problems doing it.

The fear that a message board draft would take a long time is unfounded. We can hammer one out faster than an e-mail or thread snake draft because you're not waiting on individuals to make each pick before moving on to the next. Then pausing the clock/time limit every night for sleep or whatever. You could have anywhere from 12 players (1 nomination per team) to 120 players (10 nominations per team) on the board at the same time. With 12 hour or 6 hour bidding windows, it wouldn't take very long. If we started soon, we could probably finish a 12 hour bid time draft before March 1st. And that would be on the low end of the nominations amount. The more nominations we allow, the faster the draft goes.

I would be oppose to an auction. In regards to the revers snake or whatever it is called I would say that I am against that. My team had the first pick in the other mega draft and if the decision would have been solely mine I would have preferred to swap spots with the last pick in that scenario.

Really? Trout super elite in this format. Just based on the draft alone I feel we had a huge advantage getting the 1/2 (Huge dropoff after elite options, bigger dropoff then the one suffered from the 3rd round drop imo).

Now that I'm starting to think about draft picks I'm kind of waffling on this considering the strength of this years rookie classes (Which is just miles and miles above last years). Not sure what we can do besides that as I'm realizing dan's idea of drafting picks would end up adding a ton to the draft (Adding 20 or more picks to the drafts by picking the rookie picks of all sports) and making it more complicated as well.

I like dans idea a lot I just don't think we can get a 90 round draft done in time

Time wise we can do it. Just reduce time between picks or something

Important thing is if it's fair and everyone likes it

Ya it wasn't just that fact that there was a drop off in the regular draft but we were stuck picking last in every rookie draft.

I would be more in favor of the reverse snake if there was to be a redraw of the rookie draft order.

I was thinking something along those lines but wasn't sure if people would like it. Pick 1 sport's rookie draft to do reverse of the actual draft order. Then redraw once for the other 2 with people getting the spot they randed for one and then the inverse for the other. Seems more even to me but idk.

Ya, I just don't feel the 1st overall pick is worth picking last in the rookie drafts. The guy who gets the last pick can get the top rookie in all 3 sports which is more valuable than the 1st overall pick.

Would there be a way to randomize the order then starting with the first person, you can pick 1-12 in the mega draft or 1-12 in year one rookie draft. That way someone in the 5-7 range can opt for higher rookie picks.

So drafting draft positions?

Yea. Not sure how it would work though since we would have to pick twice.

I was thinking that.. But for first few people itll probably end up the same with top of reg draft and bottom of rookie draft. It pretty much only helps middle teams and could hurt the end teams who will end up middle of both potentially

I would say just do 2 completely random drawings. While it would be possible to get stuck with late picks in both drafts at least it would be based solely on luck.

Tell that to the people that get stuck with it.

Yea. In a dynasty league that could put you in a serious hole to start with

Yeah, true. Still think doing 2 separate rands with the orders for
Actual Draft-Basketball Rookie Draft
Football Rookie Draft-Baseball Rookie Draft

Mirroring each other is a good idea. Actual draft and basketball rookie draft both very top heavy so would cancel out to an extent and don't think anyone gets screwed here.
