NASCAR 2015 DFS Thread NASCAR 2015 DFS Thread

Haven't seen a thread go up around these parts, likely because it's lol NASCAR. However, I find myself perhaps the most excited for this format of DFS.

Why, you ask? From some things I've read so far, it seems like there is a fair amount of predictability looking deeper into the stats each week. If this ever catches on with the average NASCAR fan, there could be a lot of money up for grabs.

What say you, 2+2? Will you be joining me in getting this off the ground for the Coca-Cola 600?

Let us

43rd: 1 PTs

Scoring Notes:

Place Differential = (Starting Position) – (Finishing Position)
Example: If a driver starts in 20th position and finishes in 10th place then his Place Differential is +10.

A driver’s starting position is based solely on his qualifying position. If a driver's starting position changes between qualifying and the start of the race for any reason (backup car, driver change, etc.), the qualifying position will be used to calculate place differential.

Pass Differential = Total number of passes minus times passed
Drivers can only pass or be passed when they are on track during green flag laps. Drivers’ number of passes and number of times passed will not increase when drivers are in the pits or in the garage.

Points for Finishing Positon and Place Differential will be updated in real-time during the race. Drivers will gain points as they move up in position and lose points as they drop in position.

Driver Lock Notes: All drivers lock at the time the race starts.

Elliott doesn't have spectacular results at Charlotte in the Xfinity Series, so I'm not too high on him this week, but the rest seems fine. Big fan of Dillon or Almirola if you want a bargain. Also like McMurray, Kahne, Truex as guys who could fly under the radar.

Kanhe will have the highest ownership AINEC. Biffle is fast this week but has a history of negative place differential at CMS.

Cashed two out of four for maybe above mid cash. Still pretty damn fun though.

26 way tie for 1st in the slingshot. Duplicate rosters are gonna be an issue going forward. Add more drivers or price them so tightly you have to take a scrub.

I cannot believe how poorly some of the big name DFSers did in the $300 tourney. LOL at anyone who dropped an entry with Danica.

Guy that finished 2nd had 5/10/12/14/16
I had 1/2/6/12/13
How is his score way higher than mine. I'm sorry but not okay to pick the top two winners and not even cash.

There is no defense people can use that the other cars were better. Clearly 10 is now > 1st and 2nd to finish

Sad thing is some known "pros" tried defending how it was all skill.

These are the respected people in dfs that are talking out their ass

Adjust to the scoring? Realize that top finishing position is not worth much compared to the other things.

There is 0 skill in throwing darts at 5:10:12:14:16 finishing positions.

Sure people are arguing the best cars scored the most points. I beg to differ. This is sports. NASCAR is like golf imo.
You will never see a guy in 10th outscore 1st n 2nd combined.
I'm sure the guy that hits the most fairways won't outscore the winner.

It was obviously a poor scoring system and not to mention 26 people tied for first. I can't remember a full slate sport of any kind with that kinda tie. Mma never even had that

I'm not saying if the scoring was good or bad. All I'm saying is that we can all learn from this and adjust.

I agree about the 26 way tie. Hopefully they will add a spot or something. Is it because there was an article or something picking those drivers? There wasn't a lot of info on NASCAR so it's possible these were "expert picks" either by a DFS site or a NASCAR site.

One of my lineups had all of the drivers in the 26 way tie, except Dillon for Elliott. Also had way too much McMurray and not enough Menard.

Looks like the scoring rewards the best cars throughout the race and not necessarily where they finish. I figured multiple lineups would win the big tourney, but not 26 - they definitely have to adjust the pricing going forward.

Either way it was fun, I'm looking forward to delving deeper into the stats to do better for next week's race.

Seems like you gotta pick guys that run fast the whole race, lead some laps, and move up in the track and not in the pits. Kind of a weird scoring system but can be fun if I can figure it out.

One thing I picked up from the scoring table that paid off was green flag pit stops matter if you have a front runner. You don't lose any pass diff points when in the pits. So a top 5 car gets shuffled back after a pit stop and earns positive pass diff points moving back to the front quickly, especially on fresh tires. (There's no pass points under yellow.)

Being the longest race of the year this was emphasized. Even JJ was racking up points until he wrecked. Fortunately he only hurt one of my rosters.

Made the money with 3/5/11/12/24 finishes. My 5th place finisher Truex outscored 3rd place finisher Jr. 111-68.Fastest laps, laps led makes a huge difference.Scoring makes sense in a sport where wrecks and breakdowns are prevalent.Coming in 1st in dfs golf is meaningless too if your other players are crap.I also think the back of the pack guys in Nascar are the deadest money compared to the other dfs sports.

At first glance, when analysing last year the thing that sticks out to me is that pass differential is entirely random. I've tried looking at a number of different pre-race variables to try and predict a driver's final pass differential, but none of them show any statistically significant correlation.

I'm not sure if it's because one car tends to dominate a good portion of the race at Dover, but predicting how the drivers will score seems to be way more random than it was last week.
