We have 2 ways of doing that.

In every sport you will have $300 loaded. It is up to you to track how much you have left to spend (in the spreadsheet). If you go over, you will lose the player you won obviously, who will go back into the pool.

Everyone gets 100 in every sport. If you need extra money to make a bid, you let me know and I can move the money. Downside to this is that your balance will change and been seen by everyone, so you may lose some strategic advantage.

how about this, and i think this is pretty fair:

for all sports you can add a player via waivers, but if they are a rookie (ie qualify for rookie status for that sport) then they are not added to your active roster, they are added to your minors roster. if you wish to call them up, then you do so at your own discretion.

that way the rookie draft is still most important - think about basketball, how many rookies are gonna be left over after a 5 round draft? - and you still have to manage your minor farm and manage your active roster in terms of call ups/downs.

edit to that: i would say thats only allowed after the rookie draft of whatever sport, which i think is how it would go anyway in terms of a timeline

some other alternatives:

- no rookies who arent drafted can be added until the next rookie draft (i wouldnt totally be against this either)

- there's a separate rookie waiver $ (management hell)

I would be fine with that.

Basically.

All players not drafted are available via waivers. If they have not reached 50 innings or 150abs they must start on your minor league team, though can be insta called up. If they exceed that they can go direct to your pro team.

what about not being able to add rookies to your rookie roster unless it's through the draft/trade, but once unattached rookies lose rookie status they're game to be claimed off waivers? that seems like the easiest way to do it.

Would involve everyone knowing when guys reach min stats. But that might be easiest assuming its they are available the week after they hit those numbers

Lol that was a joke. We picked like 15 mins after I posted it.

Now on to forsrs... We drafted our team based on being able to add/drop eligible players. Making a rule of who is eligible after the fact is lolbad. If a player is in the player pool, he should be allowed to be picked up. We just drafted 60 rookies ffs. If anyone thinks that there's some UNDRAFTED rookie out there that shouldn't be allowed to be drafted until next year, why didn't you just draft him? Wo cares if he wastes away on someone else's roster? What am I missing here?

If an nfl rookie goes UNDRAFTED in our nfl draft, then blows up, we gonna wait another year for him To be eligible? C'mon guys.

Canoe - it's never as simple as "if a player is on the waiver wire, he can be picked up" in baseball leagues with minor league systems. Baseball is a different beast because of the minor league system and because the draft (the IRL one) happens midseason. Clearly you can't be arguing that whoever is drafted in the IRL draft this season can be picked up if they are added to the ESPN player pool? I know it seems intuitive that a player that is on the waiver wire can be picked up, but no keeper baseball league with a minor league system can work that way.

Which is why I say rookies are eligible for pickups in season, but if they're below the 50ip/130ab min (unless promoted from your minor league system) they should be dropped from your team and be eligible in the minor league draft next year

I like this in theory but would get really complicated with 3 sports going at once

There really is no rookie rules for NFL/NBA, once they're drafted/out of school, they're eligible, if not taken, FA

MLB isn't too bad anyway, we all see "prospect" lists, and who is not at the rookie mins, very few happened in MLB this past year except top prospects, a few iffy pitchers, and Garcia (that I recall anyway)
Just would check each roster at end of year, and drop any eligible for draft.

so i can pick up a rookie mlb player using waiver $, he goes to my minors, i can promote him to my roster, and hope he reaches eligibility? if he does, he's mine, if not then he goes back to the rookie pool?

i like that
