The proposal.

We do a typical dynasty league but a player's real life salary counts towards the cap - the cap will vary depending upon the amount of teams we get - ideally this will be a deep league to more accurately reflect NBA roster construction.

The cap will be meant to drive tough decisions over whom to keep each year and reward those who plan ahead. I'm in a 20 team league that's been around over a decade now and the cap for each team is 140 million and is re-adjusted each offseason - for 20 teams, 140 is just big enough that most of the top 100 or so players

You can't drop a player unless they are in the final year of their deal. In my current league, we pretend option years are guaranteed ie so someone on a 1 year deal with a 1 year option would not be considered droppable in the first year of play

The real beauty of this league is that long term contracts can backfire horribly. If you draft a rookie and he busts then you're stuck with an unproductive player for several years unless you do a trade to another team willing to take on the toxic asset.

Because of this, most roster changes are made through trades rather than through waivers, you get a lot of deals you'd never see in a normal league, like dealing aaron holiday for damian jones even though there are better options for both on waivers because they can't be dropped

but because of this, i'd also prefer to do no cash in this because if things sour on a team, they could be bad for a few years in which case it's a tough sell asking someone to renew their team with a .350 record knowing it'll mostly the same guys and many he can't even drop until they are on the final year of their contracts

but this is 2p2 so if the people want money involved then fine, but I would insist people pre-pay a year in advance or half a year at least so when they do abandon ship we can give whomever takes it over a discount so to speak

something the commish wanted since we were trying to "replicate the real nba gm experience" and being a contentious prick i found a loophole of using an antiquated name

i'm fine with whatever the group wants but if we do it for money, I think a smaller amount (or even none) is better

the reason is because in this format the bad teams can be bad for a while because they are stuck with bad contracts and people can also get themselves in situations where they need to lose a big player because they got a huge pay raise that will put them over the cap and they rage quit because they want to keep both giannis and kawhi etc etc

ultimately, if there is interest I think the amount we play for (if any) can be decided democratically as well as any other tweaks the the boiler plate rules of the existing league I am in

I'm on for something like $20 a year ideally as I know nothing about fantasy basketball and am nothing more than a donation. I do love me some salary cap juggling though
