Hey, I was about to update these two on the google sheet, and Park is on a non rookie contract. Can we still demote non rookies? Im actually not 100% sure.

Interesting. Relevant parts of the rules:

So my interpretation (could be wrong) is both those rules are directed at players on rookie contracts, as in (1) who can be drafted in rookie draft and then (2) how they are facilitated after.

I think your specific situation is unique. Im not saying I'm against it, but that we don't have clear rule for it either way.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Should players who are not on rookie contracts (4/4/4/10/30/50) be allowed to be sent to minors? Also, have we ever done this in the past?

My interpretation could be wrong too, but it seems like the rules about rookies and about minor-league rosters are separate. Rookies are eligible to be on the minor-league roster, of course, but so too are any player who begins the season in the minors, as per point 1) above. No idea how we've handled this in the past, not sure if it's unusual or not.

I'm pretty sure we have done this in the past, though I can't recall the exact player.

Non-roster invitees who sign a two-way contract or young players with options sometimes end up in this situation, spending the start of the season in the minors before getting called up later when the MLB team deems them useful.

The first part of the rule quoted ("A minor league player is any player that...") would indeed apply to Park's case and was written to address this type of situation, if I'm remembering it right.

when nd first asked about minor league demotion i assumed it only applied to minor league contract guys - but i guess after seeing how we wrote the rule it would be fine to apply to normal contracts as well. Should be pretty rare that it matters anyway.

as for minor league cap, 20 still in effect, and I don't see any really compelling reasons to change. that's still a lot of minor leaguers

Speaking of did we finalize any rule changes? I know we used the 12 hour clock but not sure if any of the others are happening
