Checked the rules and didn't see when we are obligated to call guys up.
1) A rookie is defined as any player with less than 130 ABs, 50 IP, or 20 games in relief before the start of the regular season.
1) A minor league player is any player that qualifies as a rookie or begins the season in the minor leagues in real life (IRL). Minor leaguers may be retained on a team’s minor league roster for as long as they are eligible to be there.
8) Teams may have only active MLB players on their roster. Thus, teams cannot hide a rookie or minor leaguer on their active roster unless that player is called up IRL. If the player is called up IRL (even briefly) and is promoted to a fantasy team’s active roster, the player must stay there for the rest of the season. However, if that player starts the next season in the minors IRL, they may revert back to the fantasy minors regardless of rookie status (see also, Rule 2 – “Minor League System”).
[Correction] - Hamilton is currently listed on the Reds' 25-man roster, so technically he's a mandatory call-up. I'd just assume he's going to be promoted this year.
Paxton only has 24 IP (all as a starter), but he is on Seattle's 25-man roster. Same situation as Hamilton, but keep an eye on those two in Spring Training to see if they're demoted. At that point, you can demote him in fantasy as well.
If he starts the regular season in the minors, you don't have to call him up.
If Weiland is really out of baseball, feel free to cut him before the draft starts (won't count against you).
