also roto, $100 but $50 is cool, auction (not sure what a salary cap league is?), 12 is good i think 10 is prob too shallow

Thanks for PMing; I can tell that you'll be a good commissioner.

Quote:
-Some sort of structured payout rewarding things other than just winning the postseason . . .
Yeah that's cool.

Quote:
-Minor league system. 25 man active roster and 40 man total roster It would work just like IRL.
Sounds good. I don't want to get TOO crazy with a minor league system. Just enough to add depth.

Quote:
-H2H or roto? Thoughts?
Roto.

Quote:
-Everyone pays TWO years in advance. This means you'll have to pony up 100-200 dollars right now. You can sell your team for whatever you want (assuming a majority of the current league ownership approves the new owner).
No problem.

Quote:
-I'd like to run the league with Pecota helping me out. Anyone have problems with this? All major decisions/vetoes/etc. will be voted on by the league as a whole. We also have non-league 2+2 people available here to arbitrate any league issues if we have to.
Sounds good.

Quote:
-10 teams or 12 teams or more? I think 12 is a good round number.
We could do 10 since we're committing to keep people interested, but 12 is good. Wouldn't want to do much more than that.

Quote:
-Auction draft? Salary cap?
I'd love to do an auction draft.

Quote:
-Charges for transactions? Or just a transaction cap?
Why is this necessary in dynasty/keeper leagues when it's not in year-to-year leagues? I don't see the harm.

Quote:
-All trades must be publicly posted for 48 hours and open to counter-offers before they can go through.
That's interesting. I can see how it's a good way to fight collusion, but it seems unfair that an owner can work hard to pull off a good trade and then get one-upped at the last minute. I'm not too worked up about it one way or the other.

And yeah, I'm in, for $50 or $100.

Re: 2+2 (small stakes) Dynasty Fantasy Baseball League Interest/Discussion thread

I'm in for sure. Karak, please throw out a draft date so people can start preparing (read, so the stat nerds can review their spreadsheets ) Some additional thoughts on what Karak outlined earlier:

Quote:
Ok, time to get this started. I think 50-100 dollars is the best amount to do, especially for a league like this that will require a decent amount of time.
I'd like to see the buy-in set at $50. I was kind of hoping the option of making side-bets throughout the season would keep it interesting for those who wanted a higher buy-in, but I'm fine with whatever the majority decides. Below is a quick, unofficial count of people's preferences for the buy-in ITT, please let me know if anyone has changed their mind or I got it wrong (also, please voice your opinion if you haven't):

Coff - Prefers $50, ok with $100 if consensus reached
nutshot2 - Prefers $100, fine with less
iamawesomer - Prefers $100, $50 is ok
bonsaltron - $25 was good ($50 ok?)
MDPokerAA - Prefers $100
Burdzthewurd - $25-$100 is good
Exitonly - Prefers $50, $100 is ok (possible co-owner with nutshot2?)
GeoffRas22 - possible co-owner with ray (who's ray?)
Karak - No preference, $50 or $100

Quote:
-Some sort of structured payout rewarding things other than just winning the postseason (assuming we do h2h instead of roto)/year. Maybe highest point totals each month? Stuff like that to keep interest even if you can't win.
Sounds good. Not sure if you'd want to limit it to overall team performance (points) or branch out into minor awards like best team ERA or something like that. Not in favor of a prize for having a CY winner on the team, etc., I'm not about to have the BBWA influence potential winnings, haha.

Quote:
-Minor league system. 25 man active roster and 40 man total roster It would work just like IRL. If the player is in the majors with no options left, they have to be on the 25 man roster. If they have options left and/or are a minor league player, they can be reserved on your 40 man roster either active or inactive. Basically each team will have 40 people on it. This isn't set in stone, and we can expand/contract it as we think it is needed.
I like the 40 man roster idea. I'm definitely in favor of some sort of "minors" system and I think this is a clean way to do it without having it get too complicated.

Do we need limits on how many prospects can be on the 40 man? Obviously, you'd need at least the basic roster to have MLB players in order to accumulate points, but say you sacrifice a bench spot to bank a hot prospect or potential call-up. Since he's in the minors, is it ok to have him take up a "traditional" bench spot, or is that too realistic? I'd lean towards a requirement to have X number of ML level position players and pitchers on the 25 man (filling out the minimal starting lineup and rotation spots, per league rules) and just let people do whatever with the rest of the roster spots.

Are we limited to only AAA players? For example, if I draft/buy Matt Wieters 2.0 while he's still only in AA with plans for using him one or two years later, is it legal to have him on my 40 man during that period he's in the low-mid minors (not commenting on the strategy, just if that would be allowed in theory)?

Quote:
-H2H or roto? Thoughts?
Personally, I enjoy H2H more over Roto. However, I'd be interested to hear from people who have done a keeper league as far as what the better format is. I know the strategies can differ between H2H and roto, but since I've never played in a keeper, it's difficult for me to figure how those different elements would play out. So no preference for me at the moment.

Quote:
-Everyone pays TWO years in advance. This means you'll have to pony up 100-200 dollars right now. You can sell your team for whatever you want (assuming a majority of the current league ownership approves the new owner).

-10 teams or 12 teams or more? I think 12 is a good round number.
Yes and 12 sounds fine. Definitely no more than 12 though.

Quote:
-Established league rules for not setting your best competitive lineup week in and week out. We could have fines/penalties for finishing in the bottom 2 spots of the league every year, for example.
Rules to keep things competitive are good, but I don't like the idea of fines for the basement teams. This is going to be a pretty tough league (I think) and it would suck to put in real effort and still get slapped with a fine just because your team fell short. Not sure what an alternate solution would be though.

Quote:
-Auction draft? Salary cap?
I've never done an auction before, but I think that sounds pretty cool. I think auction and salary cap would mesh well. I'm assuming the cap would coincide with how much you can spend at auction? We're just using "monopoly money" for the auction, right (noob questions)?

Also, for you savvy roto players, is there a preferred source for valuing players for auction?

I know the least about the auction and fantasy salary cap aspect, so hopefully we can flesh this out some more.

Quote:
-Charges for transactions? Or just a transaction cap?
Transaction cap, please. If so, weekly, monthly, or season cap?

On a related note, what are the rules going to be for off-season transactions?

Are we going to have a veto system for trades? I'm not sure if it's necessary or not. The last league I was in had publicly posted trades, a certain majority of owners needed to veto the trade, commish granted final approval and mediated any formal objections. Honestly, I don't think a single trade was proposed that didn't go through, so this may be a non-issue.

----

Where are we going to run the league through? I know we'll draft on a 2p2 thread, but are we using Yahoo (fine with this) or what? Thoughts/suggestions?

What categories are we going to use? Last league I was in had
R, HR, SB, OBP, SLG - W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP. Wins vs. holds always seems to get mentioned. I've viewed wins as a necessary evil in the past, so I'm open to other options with the stats, for sure.

Type of rosters? I've seen some with the MI, CI, 4th OF setup in a roto league (wasn't a big fan), not sure what people's preferences are.

I realize there are a lot of more important issues at hand but am I correct in assuming that the league will be run on yahoo?

I didn't mention I prefer $50, but would be in for $100. There is one other thing I'd like to clarify. In a dynasty league a player is yours until you trade or drop him. A keeper league there are rules around how many players and/or how many years you can keep guys. We are definitely doing a dynasty league? I prefer keeper, but there would be more rules to hammer out.

I'd say definitely not AAA. I have 3 questions on minors.

1.What will the player universe be?
a.anybody drafted by a major league team
b.anybody signed by a major league team
c.anybody who has MLB options (including guys who wouldn't fall into categories A & B)

My keeper league uses a version of C (we use rookie eligibility not MLB options). So if my 12 year old neighbor throws 80 with a nasty changeup, I can draft him.

2.When can minor league players be added? Any time or just once a year during the draft? If minor leaguers can be added anytime and we use option A or B as the player universe, there's going to be a flurry of minor leaguers added/dropped in June-August.

Adding minor leaguers once a year goes well with player universe A & B. Player universe C allows minor leaguers to be added/dropped freely.

3.If we're doing an auction will minor leaguers be part of it and everybody on the 40 man has a salary?

I've always been against monetary penalties for finishing at the bottom. 1 thing I've seen done is instead of the last place team getting #1 pick the next year, the #1 pick goes to the bubble team. Can't really do this if we do an auction.

I've seen both. With $50/$100 buy-in monopoly money makes more sense or else we'd have a ton of guys making the minimum.

One other note, I think the payout year 1 should be pretty flat with the understanding it will be adjusted year 2. There will inevitably be issues that come up the 1st season. Some guys in my keeper league regret that we didn't run season 1 as a test season to identify and work out all the issues that arose.

Re: 2+2 (small stakes) Dynasty Fantasy Baseball League Interest/Discussion thread

All minor league players will be available. We can set it so 25 of your 40 must be major league players, and the other 15 can be whatever.

A minor league player may be defined as... any SP with under 200 IP, any RP with under 100 IP and any hitter with under 300 PA. How does that sound? This way we don't have to worry about figuring out who has options, and these players can be freely moved back and forth between the active and 40-man rosters...

Issue with doing an auction draft: it would have to be live, wouldn't it? No way we could do an auction draft slowly on here. Getting 12 guys from the internet together to do a live draft seems like a daunting task. Any ideas? We could do the first 5 rounds auction and the last 35 snake I suppose?

Let's set a deadline of January 8th for everyone to commit. We'll cap the league at 12 teams, and spots will be available based on whoever posted on the thread expressing interest first. When you 100 % commit, please note whether you would prefer 50 or 100 buy-in (I prefer and think very strongly we should do 100) and roto or HU.

The draft will tentatively start on the 10th, pending figuring out how to do it.

And this is 100 % a dynasty league. This will not be a keeper.

Thanks for pointing this out, I was getting the two terms confused. For the most part, I'm fine with either format.

what sites have a system that we can use our dynasty format on? is it common/free?

how are we doing the draft? is there a live draft system we can use that has all the minor leaguers? or are we just going to have a thread going here for a few weeks?

im pretty sure espn has the capability to do a dynasty league and its all free. i think it may be also possible for the commish to manually enter all the picks, so we could do the whole draft ITT and have karak set it up(i could be wrong on this). i dont think any of the free sites have anything w/ minor leagues so that would probably be done on excel or some ****
