I don't think players like Brackman should be eligible to be auctioned in the initial draft. They'll be included in the minor-league draft afterwards. We could make it so that only players that have >0 playing time in the majors are eligible, or have no qualifier but require that they take up a spot on your 25man if you really want them.

For undrafteds, we can set one day a week to process transactions, but have players eligible to be bid on throughout the week (i'm thinking silent auction here, but public i guess works too). ESPN's league has a feature like this built in, it doesnt look it fits perfectly with our league/salary structure but i think we could make it work.

and i agree w/ unlimited/free adding and dropping of minor leaguers, w/ a straight waiver-order system.

A few questions/ideas since I just became a member in the last day and am trying to follow along. Take my questions and ideas for what they are worth. I can play in any kind of a league so if things stay as is, i am cool.

1- First off ,I think it would be alot better if we went with 14 hitters and 9 pitchers. you need to have 5 Outfielders, 1 MI, 1 Co, 2 C. Otherwise you are really going to have every team become an all star team which is not as fun as a league where teams have to work at putting together a solid team. I am in NL only leagues where we have 10 teams and start 14 hitters and 9 pitchers.

2- Not sure if it has been officially decided but CBS is far better than Yahoo for a league like this. Yeah, the cost sucks, but you get what you pay for and for a complex league like this I think it is worth it.

3-- As for needing SP/RP spots- If you have a 5x5 league with K's and Wins you don't really need to have set amount of SPs/RPs/innings requirements since you can't really dump 2 categories (wins/ks) and expect to compete too often.

4- I caught something about keeping up with things in a google spreadsheet. Wasn't sure what that was about. I assume it was for minor leaguers? Why can't those rookies be added to the teams roster? Does Yahoo not allow it? on CBS there is a setting for Reserve players and a separate setting for minors players. There should never be a need for a seperate spreadsheet to track player movement.

The money we will save by using Yahoo will be barely noticed by the teams that win. Its sort of like using a pen and paper to track your poker hands versus using PT3 so you can save the 50 bucks.

Just checked CBS and they are running a referral offer:

Receive a $100 promo code for every friend who purchases a new Fantasy Baseball Commissioner League at CBSSports.com by April 22, 2010.* To help incentivize your friend to purchase, they will receive 50% off their new 2010 Fantasy Baseball Commissioner league. **

- I will be willing to turn that $100 referal fee around and pay the commish $100 out of pocket for next years CBS site fee. So this years fee will 50% off and next years fee will 100 off. If you don't trust me yet and think I am trying to get a free referal, you can ask the commish from the 2p2 Dynasty Basketball league me and thayer are already in for the referal. I think mebenhoe runs the money these days for that league.

I don't quite follow; so how much will each owner have to pay for us to use CBS?

The money could come out of the agreed upon entry fee already set up or we can have each team owner pay an extra 8-10 bucks depending on final cost for CBS.

Definitely worth it when running a league like this. If it was a straight up snake draft league that starts over every year it wouldn't pay to go with CBS.

Ah, ok. CBS does seem legit as far as providing the features we want. If we're just splitting the annual $100 or $150 entry fee among the 12 teams (or X owners?) that's fine with me. If it comes out of the entry fee, that's even better, but it's not a big deal to me how we handle it.

Thanks for putting all the work into this guys, I especially agree with this statement.

Would adding 2 more teams (I'm sure we can come up with 2 people) be more preferable than expanding rosters?

If given the choice of going with a more fantasy-esque roster (5 OF, 1 MI, etc.) or expanding the league by a few teams, I'd lean towards league expansion. I do agree that spreading the high level talent out to a realistic degree is a good thing to aim for when setting this up though.

It would be better but not nearly as good as expanding the rosters. Its actually pretty standard to have a 23 man roster.

I would propose something like 23 man active roster. 7 reserves (no need for DL/suspended player/out on paternity leave etc). X amount of minor league spots.

My problem with it though is this: someone could conceivably still start 8-9 guys a day and win the league. If we are going to expand that far, I think we should require a minimum PA requirement or something out of each position.

I think possibly sacrificing the 3 counting stats in sake of the 2 rate stats just adds another element of strategy right? also I don't think it'd really make sense to do, anyway.

and i like the MI/CI/OF 14 Team proposal.

- Escrow
- Two more owners
- Auction Start date. Each owner pretty much needs to check in with the auction thread once a day for a month.
- CBS for money or ESPN for free w/ a spreadsheet for minors/contract stuff. - I don't think we should pay for CBS unless we're sure that it will do everything we'd need to do on our own for the ESPN one. Has anyone been in a dynasty run on CBS before? CBS does have a free trial fwiw.

im looking into the software tmw. i think it will do most (not all) of what we want to do, but either awy it should make it easier

using the referral scheme, the cost for CBS should be (i think) 50 dollars for 2 years, which is more than reasonable. we can reevaluate after year 2.

Holy ****, lots of action here. It's going to be hard to comment on everything.

I slightly prefer roster expansion to league expansion, but I'm certainly fine with 14 teams. Just as long as we're adding people who are committed, and I don't see why we wouldn't be.

3 SP/2 RP/4 P seems good. Also agree that a IP cap is unnecessary.

Like the idea of the loser's tax. Yeah, it sucks if you're trying, but it sucks not winning when you're trying too.

Waiver system for undrafted minor-league guys makes sense.

I think that's pretty much the major stuff. Looks like you guys converged towards some pretty good solutions here.

Okay little bit of a lull there, we should try and aim for the start of March at the latest to get auction going. So..

Do you guys know anyone that wants to take the last 2 spots? i posted about the openings in mttc's fantasy thread. i feel like this league is missing some greaaaaaaaaaaaaaar.

escrow - do we need someone outside the league? if not then can you hold the monies
karak? do you have stars and tilt accounts to receive funds? payouts: $750, $250, $250, $150? last place tax of how much? $50? $100? and that should go to first?
