For those in keeper leagues, how do you handle ownership changes?

The new owner takes the team of the old owner. We keep 2 (max) at their round drafted. The new owner will choose keepers from the old owner's team.

Yea if you don't have someone willing to take over a team 100 percent it almost never works. Any attempt to equalize a new owner almost always ends up being super unfair in one direction or the other.

Usually taking over a keeper team means your team is going to suck and you're punting that 1st year. Always someone out there willing to take over though.

I've always made the new owner play by the same rules as the old owner (and everyone else in the league).

What is considered too early in regards to joining a fantasy league and doing a draft? Last year I made the mistake of doing some drafts a bit too early and had to deal with the Arian Foster fiasco...

If the keepers are garbage and nobody wants the team, I generally give the prospective owner a break on the buyin (like ~25% off, but basically whatever it takes to get someone to commit), and am sure to be up front about it with the rest of the league.
If the new owner happens to cash, then whatever amount of the buyin he didnt pay initially will be docked from his winnings.

I agree with the new owner potentially needing a discount to be enticed to play and that all the existing owners need buy-in to the discount etc... I don't get the "docked from his winnings" piece.

If you have a 10 team league and collect $100*9 + $75*1, then total prize pool is $975, and you make your payouts based on that, and whoever wins, has that $25 "docked" from his winnings?

No, I mean if the normal pay structure is $50 x 12 teams and your payouts are:
300
200
100
Then I adjust it contingent on new owner cashing.

But the new owner only pays $25, and he cashes 3rd place he only gets $75.
If he cashes 2nd them he gets $175 etc
If he doesn't cash, then the $25 is coming out of the 3rd place prize (which would be clearly stated prior to season)

So you are collecting ($50*11 + $25*1=) $575 and paying out $600 if the new guy doesn't cash?

No he is saying

300
200
75 if new guy is not 1st or 2nd

300
175 if new guy is 2nd
100

275 if new guy is 1st
200
100

I guess that works too.

We started this thread for the 2015 season in March 2015. We are into May here. We need a 2016 thread, IMO.
