Dara checked last season and pick highest points strat would have won by a few points. No idea why neither of us are playing that strat this time!

Basically there's very few edges and your projections need to disagree with the market for there to be value in picks. Otherwise it's basically button clicking which leads me to believe being contrarian is prob best by going for Max points always.

This kinda sucks because it means I'm generally picking completely opposite ikts picks and fantasy stuff. I am not a fan of hedging.

As we have an international break, I'll have time to tinker a bit with the sheet. Maybe adding some "ghost" players would be a fun way of visualising the different strategies: we could have an imaginary player who only ever bets home wins, one who only bets draws, one who only picks the favourite, one who bets all the outsiders etc, and see how they perform.

Due to a horribly sub-optimal piece of scheduling on my behalf, I'll be at Alton Towers with a group of teenage girls on Saturday and will miss all the football. As a consequence, the private entry sheets will not be locked until Saturday evening, nor will the picks be displayed on the Master Sheet. This DOES NOT mean changes are allowed after the advertised deadline of 11:30am Saturday! Everything is time stamped on my end so don't get any funny ideas.

Pretty crazy how nonsensically picking All Homes/Aways/Faves/Outsiders etc is beating most of us. I thought this was a skill game?

I pretty much view this as a game of luck - not that that's a bad thing, it's good fun.

I'm just not under any illusion that I can beat Betfair/bookies at football, so as far as I'm concerned each play has an EV of 10 points and I just pick according to my first instinct.

There's probably some skill at the end of the season in terms of making the right plays to give you a chance to either hold or claw back a lead, but in terms of points scoring EV there's really nothing to choose between options imo. Which I guess is the whole idea of the game.

There might be people here who are better at football betting than me and can actually beat the markets, and if so they obviously have an edge, but even if they do it's tiny and the luckiest player should still win this (hopefully me ).
