Valuing the pick that a keeper is worth is pretty subjective.
I tend to look more at how much surplus value the player carries in the round he can be kept at, rather than just at his current ADP.
If a guy can potentially be kept for a the max 5 years at bargain draft rounds, Id want to be compensated with a fairly early pick, certainly way ahead of his ADP - the guy getting the player only pays that price once, but can keep the player many times.
On the other hand, if a guy is say a top 25-30 player but can only realistically be kept for 1 year, I wouldnt expect him to fetch a pick anywhere near his ADP. Why would someone use 2 early picks to keep a guy one time?
And then you also have to take into account that 60 players are going to be kept. Certainly some top 30 players will be available early on, but by like the 3rd round the top 75+ players will all be off the board, so 3rd round pick =/= 3rd round value in a keeper league.
cliff notes:
its hard to determine what kind of draft pick a keeper is worth
Nah thats fine, it really doesnt matter as far as the league goes.
just depends how much time you want afterwards to set up the draft order (which only takes an hour or so unless you keep forgetting players like I did in one of my leagues last season).
Doing some last minute house cleaning for this weekend. Looking to shuffle up and deal to reposition some of my keepers..
Adam Jones(2)
Ian Desmond (4)
Jordan Zimmermann (8)
Jake Arrieta (26)
Carlos Carrasco (26)
Lucas Duda (26)
are currently underpriced/can be moved. I am looking for a power bat upgrade to keep. Picks work also. I'll probably be sending some messages on the weekend but if you see anything above that you like feel free to shout at me
Hey movie, do we need to do trades via Yahoo or are you going to process them manually after? We obviously can't set our keepers via the Yahoo engine because we're keeping some players that we've traded for that aren't on our current roster
