14.6 Albert Puljos

Seems like a decent time to pick up a guy who has averaged over 600 ABs and a 81/33/106/.261 line over the last three years. While clearly being a player in decline, that decline was from a very high peak and he still provides consistency at this late point in the draft.

I'm a big believer is drafting three closers, with the guys I pick up creating trade excess in an area where there are always owners in need, so I'm taking Tony Watson. This more or less ensures a top four finish in saves and gives me another 60-70 quality innings.

FB velocity was below 90mph in his last start - not good. But it's still early March. If Greinke is still below 90 in a few weeks, well... not sure id draft him here. Fangraphs put out an article recently about Greinke's FB velocity in ST - it's usually low (as it is for many pitchers) - and then ramps up. Even if he doesn't have full velo when the season starts, I'm fine taking a gamble on him in for pick ~170 because his upside is a Tier 1 pitcher and he has been at that level before. I'm not a Greinke fan at all but I can't pass up on him at this value, especially since I already have 3 strong SP anchors on my team.

15.1 Adam Ottavino

I need a closer, and the list is running slim. Ottavino is a great closer who pitches in a less than ideal location, with Greg Holland right behind him. I'm not particularly worried about either of those potential downfalls, especially getting him at this price. If he does stay their closer, this is a great spot to pick him up. He also speaks out about sabermetrics and Fangraphs a lot, which is sweet. Very strong 2nd half of 2014 and 1st month of 2015 before getting injured. Looked just as good as ever last year. Injury concerns around him a bit, maybe.

i'm enamored by anyone who can throw 95 with a low walk rate, especially when that person pitches in a cavern like PNC with an OUTSTANDING defensive team behind him. no pittsburgh pitcher will outperform their xfip, but show me someone with a walk rate of under 2.5/9 and i'll show you someone who's going to have a sub 1.2 whip and sub 3.5 ERA. would it be nicer if he got more strikeouts? definitely, but he's going to be great to elite in the ratios and still serviceable to good in ks with a k/9 of close to or at 8

Greg Bird

there's a lot to love here especially at this spot. bird was a ****ing monster in the 40 games he played in 2015 for the yankees and he's crushing it out in the spring. i'd be very shocked if he surpassed .260 average and wouldn't be stunned if it was under .250, but he'll be hitting 3rd in the yankees lineup with 40 homer upside. that's nothing to scoff at. he'll strike out a bunch but he has a pretty forgiving walk rate which should boost his OBP to the .340-.350 range which should increase his runs with sanchez and holliday (and even judge i suppose) hitting behind him. i took him earlier than i could have gotten him but i was camping and had limited cell service when i pm'd GW my list so he was the name at the top i figured i could get cuz nobody had him that early. even still, his upside makes him value at this pick and i would argue he's one of the 3 best 1bs after the abreu drop-off which a good chance at best the best and potentially better than some taken before abreu

Jharel Cotton

this guy was my savior last year and already looks to be in midseason form this spring. he's got a pretty good slider and an excellent changeup. lot's get this out of the way: he ran REALLY really good at babip considering how horseshit the a's defense was (even hill had a .300 BABIP even with garbage contact by the hitters), but cotton had an excellent whiff rate combined with getting a ton of bad contact by hitters. another guy with a low walk rate (i see no basis in reality for the 3 bb/9 average projection that's being made of him), i don't think the 12.5% whiff rate was an aberration and i expect him to be a very useful piece late in the draft for both strikeouts and ratios

Sean Manaea

this was THE pitcher of all the pitchers in the minors i was hyped about to the point where in all 202 leagues i was in i made it a point to hoard him and him specifically for weeks til he was called up. k/bb is the most important stat imo and is usually a spot on indicator for likely success for a pitcher. manaea was extremely frustrating early on and would fall apart usually the 2nd time through the order. he was also victimized by the awful a's defense and i would tilt to no end at how many infield singles he let up. his second half though was utterly spectacular. 2.67 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and most importantly 8 k/9 and a sub 2 bb/9 giving him a 2nd half k/bb of 4.06, 18th (of those qualified, ****ing hill) in baseball. of the 17 ahead of him only tomlin is a player i would objectively call a useless piece of ****. his 4.06 put him ahead of guys like cueto, maeda, thor, price, kluber and the apple of my eye danny duffy. i fully expect him to keep it up from here and i think i snagged a (conservatively) top 20 pitcher here

I'm not a good candidate. Working OT next few weeks as well and I'm in the PNW, hence why I picked an end (and let's be honest here, for Trout ldo). I think someone posted saying they could sub in earlier, forget who though.

Donknomore has been lurking

I could take it over, but I think we are at the point of the draft where it is not as mechanical.

Cool. I deleted my post for spoilers. I'll take Nick Castellanos, who was pretty filthy in the first half before getting injured.
