10.11 Kendrys Morales (1B, OF)

reasoning here is pretty straightforward: he's the #3 hitter on the blue jays

morales has always been a very underrated power hitter who's been a victim of circumstance. his entire career the 3 parks he's called home are angels stadium, safeco and kaufman and has spent his entire career in divisions that don't play well for homers. his HR/FB on the road last year is enough to salivate over

enter rogers as a home field and a division playing in camden yards, fenway and yankee stadium. 25+% over a full season is very much in play

11.2 Rick Porcello (SP)

eh

there is literally no part of me that is comfortable with this pick. it's honestly me throwing **** on the wall hoping it sticks with something resembling a repeat performance. his off speed stuff was graded pretty well last year for the first time in his career so maybe he's learned something? idk. he gave up more fly balls than ever and his hr/fb was low as hell, so it's plausible he's much better at fooling batters and getting them to not get good contact. whatever

11.3 Adam Eaton

How does desperation smell? Because I should reek of it with this pick. OF is getting thinner and thinner and I only have one. Was really hoping to get Benintendi on the way back after Price, maybe I should have taken him first then took Price here. Oh well.

11.4 Addison Russell, SS CUBS (2016 World Series Champs)

Went back and forth here quite a bit. Russell's projections are somewhat modest, and one of the biggest problems is that it's almost impossible for him to crack the top half of the lineup. But only 23, he has so much talent, I'm willing to gamble on improvements across the board.

I'd like that pick for a SS slot. For UT, not so much.

Ya pretty much agree. But sometimes you have to take what falls to you. I'd be happy to slot him at SS, and flip Story for an upgrade to a team who needs a SS.

Don't get the SS at UTIL hate. In past years, ok i get it. This year, and in this league format - I do not. MI is a lot deeper this year. And with 2 UTIL slots and no CI or MI slots, the replacement level for a SS/2B is the same as for an OF/1B/3B. So if you think Addison Russell is the best player on the board, you slot him in your UTIL slot.

OTOH, if you have Addison Russell at the top of your board because of some perceived shortage of depth at SS causing them to have a big inflation in value - it's still a good pick but I question (and disagree with) the analysis that got you to that conclusion.

Hitting is getting pretty ugly and I want one more established bat before I get heavy into pitching with my Util slots dedicated to late upside plays, so I'm taking Jackie Bradley, who did this last year:

26/181/9/.267

While George Springer, same age, did this:

29/198/9/.261

Springer has the upside, but Bradley moves up a spot in the best order in MLB, virtually assuring good R/RBI and that 90 picks later thing is great. His HR/FB is normalized, his hard hit balls increased and he's going into his age 27 year.

Ya I've heard that same comparison (fangraphs podcast?) between Springer and Bradley. I like the pick, what Bradley was able to compile last year as #6,7, and 9 hitter was pretty impressive. And while maybe he doesnt have the upside Springer has, there's still no reason to think he cant improve on last year.

Think it was Fangraphs somewhere...def not my original.

I don't love the dip near the end of the year, but that feels like the only negative here.

Kole Calhoun

Another breakout potential guy. Definitely looking for him to take another step forward this season.

Wanted Aaron Nola in this spot. I may be taking a risk here letting some pitching go. Every time I think that I can get a pitcher I like in a tier get back to me I've been sniped so far in this draft.

One of my favorite picks for the midround bats is a guy that hit .307/.360/.533 in the first half of the season last year with 17 HR and 99 r/rbi. They were 25 and were looking to break out before suffering a wrist injury and falling off of a cliff. Now he's healthy and projected to hit 5th in a decent lineup.
