So would you entertain trading Lucroy for Castro while trying to upgrade somewhere else? I need another closer.

Ok the Castro love fest has gone way to far now. Guys, stop overreacting to 1 week of play.

I watch more Rangers stuff than everything. One thing I did some research on:

Over the WBC, Rangers SP Martin Perez was told to throw his sinker more by Felix. There was a whole segment on him talking about it during their game today. Here is the Brooks Baseball blurb on his pitching profile:

Quote:
His sinker generates an extremely high number of swings & misses compared to other pitchers' sinkers, is blazing fast and results in many more groundballs compared to other pitchers' sinkers. His fourseam fastball generates more whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers' fourseamers, has well above average velo and results in somewhat more groundballs compared to other pitchers' fourseamers. His change generates an extremely high number of swings & misses compared to other pitchers' changeups, is much firmer than usual, results in many more groundballs compared to other pitchers' changeups and has some natural sink to it. His curve (take this with a grain of salt because he's only thrown 16 of them in 2017) is basically never swung at and missed compared to other pitchers' curves, is an extreme flyball pitch compared to other pitchers' curves, is much harder than usual and has little depth. His slider (take this with a grain of salt because he's only thrown 12 of them in 2017) generates an extremely high number of swings & misses compared to other pitchers' sliders, results in more flyballs compared to other pitchers' sliders, is much harder than usual and has less than expected depth.

Perez was at one point a very highly rated prospect, but his major league results have been rather mediocre. A large part of this is due to a k/9 at that level of 5.46 and 4.67 over the past two seasons. However, during some stretches in the minors, his k/9 rate was much higher. It was 9.12 over 99 innings in double A, 10.09 over 93 innings in single A, and 8.46 over 88 more innings in double A again.

He struck out 4 in 6 innings in start #1 and then 6 in 5.1 in #2.

This doesn't mean go pick him up. It means keep an eye on him and see how it progresses over the next few weeks. Today he threw 48 sinkers out of 92 pitches and 15 changeups (with a 26.7 whiff % on them). If the next couple of weeks progress with him throwing half his pitches as sinkers and the K-rate stays up, he can potentially provide some value.

Note also: The defense behind him should improve when Beltre returns.

If Mitch Haniger is available in your league you should probably scoop him up.
Seems locked into the #2 hole in front of Cano, Cruz, and Seager so hes going to score a ****ton of runs, and hes already flashing his plus power. Will chip in some steals too.
In OBP or OPS leagues especially, there is no excuse for him not being owned. Has very solid walk rates the past 2 years in the minors and is drawing walks in the early season this year.

Im off to a rough start. All 4 of my teams started off the week on fire and were crushing through Thursday. Ended up losing 3 of the matches with abysmal weekend performances.

Most annoying part is that I had 34 match winning streak going back to '15 in my 20 team dynasty league and it immediately gets snapped in week 1. Weak.

He was one of my late round targets among others. How do you guys rank:
Haniger
Shaw
Healy
Kiermaier
They all seem to have pretty good upside with good batting order spots. I have lots of shares of these guys but may have to move some to make room for more pitching.

I love archer this year and decent chance he's the best player in this deal but you're getting zero value on Healy and selling low on Salazar

I honestly don't even need Healy, but I'm just picking him up for depth. I have Longoria as my DH and Gallo on my bench. Just in-case Longoria gets hurt- because I'm going to move him to 3B and put either Piscotty or Owings as my DH.

my SP lineup would be:

Bumgarner
Archer
Harvey
Hill (when back)
T. Anderson
Bench: Hammel, Chatwood.

RP:
Allen
Reed
Nerris
Bench: Capps (DL), Pressly

I'm definitely trading high for Archer. He has Holland too but I think Allen is overall going to be better by YTD.

A week ago (and I'm not sure this isn't still true), you could have gotten Archer, Healy and Allen for Seager. Why would you do this?

Also, he went 4-5 with 2 HR and 7 RBI in the fourth game of my The Show franchise last night if that's helpful at all.

A week ago that's a bit of a stretch (seager's ADP was a round or less earlier than archer's) and currently there's no way that (should be) is possible
