I don't draft Boston players high (personal).

I'm leaning towards Trout/Kershaw - Trout/Harper or Trout/Bryant. Thank you for the responses and I'll let you know how it goes.

I only have two fantasy baseball teams, so I like to watch the games and sweat my players. It's not fun rooting against a team, but hoping your guy goes yard.

Next year I'll get in a league with y'all. My work schedule is insane right now and I'm already in 4 otherwise I would

Which closer would y'all rather have? Bedrosian, Robertson, or familia?

Hard to say before they announce Familia's suspension. If he doesn't miss significant time it's him. If he does than I'd go with Bedrosian. Take the talent over the guy who may be traded to be an 8th inning guy somewhere or just stay on a team that won't get enough wins to make him valuable.

First draft done. I was more or less a slave to the fan graphs calculator especially when it came to pitching. We have 45 seconds round and in a snake draft it's hard to anticipate what's going to happen by the time it comes back and make your picks. I pooped myself taking Nunez at 145. How did we do?

1. (1) Mike Trout (LAA - OF)
2. (2) Clayton Kershaw (LAD - SP)
3. (26) Freddie Freeman (Atl - 1B)
4. (50) Kyle Schwarber (ChC - C,OF)
5. (72) Chris Davis (Bal - 1B)
6. (73) Zach Britton (Bal - RP)
7. (96) Wade Davis (ChC - RP)
8. (97) Mark Trumbo (Bal - OF)
9. (120) David Price (Bos - SP)
10. (121) Jameson Taillon (Pit - SP)
11. (144) Miguel Sano (Min - 3B,OF)
12. (145) Eduardo Núñez (SF - 3B,SS)
13. (168) Byron Buxton (Min - OF)
14. (169) Javier Báez (ChC - 2B,3B,SS)
15. (192) Robbie Ray (Ari - SP)
16. (193) Matt Moore (SF - SP)
17. (216) Jonathan Schoop (Bal - 2B)
18. (217) Greg Bird (NYY - 1B)
19. (240) Carlos Gómez (Tex - OF)
20. (241) Tim Anderson (CWS - SS)
21. (264) José De León (TB - SP)
22. (265) Gio González (Was - SP)
23. (266) Greg Holland (Col - RP)

Looks like you got a lot of great value with your hitters picks thanks to the fangraphs calculator at first glance.

Some standout great value picks:
Davis at 72
Bird at 217 (very sick)
Freeman at 26

Picks I don't like too much:
- Outside of Taillon and possibly Price (but doubtful) your starting rotation is bad IMO. In a league with SP I would have put a slightly bigger emphasis on SPs that can go deep into games. Keuchel would get a big boost in that format i think. As a result, think you would have been better off taking SPs at picks 73 and 96 instead of relievers.

In roto these kind of guys are pure gold because you have an inning cap. So you want a few top notch starters (at least 3), solid closers (at least 3) and then a bunch of solid setup men to add to K's, W's and not hurt the era or whip. Middle to low quality starters kill you so these guys eating up quality innings is much better than even slightly above average starters.

In standard head to head where you are trying to get more starts they probably don't add much.

seems like the year to wait on starting pitching with so much potential value in the sub 180 adp rnage

With "potential" being the key word there

Anybody have a good list of longshot "potential" type mid to low range starters?

How do you guys feel about this rotation for a 12 team H2H league, $300 budget, 9 starts per week max:
$39 Bumgarner
$26 deGrom
$14 Matz
$11 Paxton
$11 Richards
$6 Shoemaker
$5 Gsellman
$1 Morton

Im not feeling it, and huge lol at the $ I spent on Matz, but can it at least be average?

The NFBC ADP market is pretty sharp. If you trust any particular writer use his ranks against ADP for an edge. Also, this was really good if you have 100 minutes to kill.

Two top 10 anchors and +upside, what's not to like? In hindsight I'd rather have a safer innings eater in Matz's slot, but that's my only tweak.

Definitely agree on Matz. In hindsight i wish I wouldve went after Porcello who went for only $12 or ponied up for Maeda or Cole at $17.

Kinda panicked on Matz because we were towards the end of the draft and I only had 4 pitchers at that point. I should've spent more much earlier.

yep, replace Matz with this and you have a damn near perfect rotation. Still, not bad as is.

Not so sure about Gsellman/Morton (seems like Mets bias with 3 Mets starters lol), but $5 on a SP who's not guaranteed in the rotation, and Morton who has never been that great. Is it a deeper league, or why those pitchers?

The 3 mets starters were completely random - i didnt even realize that until the draft was over.

Its a bit deeper than standard. 12 teams with 30 roster spots.

Conley ($1) was my last player drafted. Dropped him for Morton who Im a (relatively) big believer in with his huge velocity increase this spring. Gsellman is someone ive been interested in since last year. Eno at FG sold me on his combo of pitch mix and velocity so hopefully that plays up in actual games.
But ya those last couple guys are definite risks, and even Richards coming off a season where he only threw 35 innings, and Paxton who never seems to stay healthy are not guaranteed to be assets.

I'd probably feel better about it if Matz was my 4 instead of my 3 starter, but I prefer him over the other 3.

I actually like Paxton, Richards, and Shoemaker more than Matz. I consider him more like my #5 or #6, but really I think its just a jumble after my clear cut 1/2

the espn rankings are terrible for pitching

paxton - 183
richards - 254
pineda - 184
ray - 200

Vogelbach demoted to AAA, Valencia (likely?) the full time 1B.
Rays rotation announced (Snell/Andriese in)
Valbuena out 4-6 weeks.
Still no word on JDM, he seems very positive and walking in a boot, so we'll see....
