Hey guys, there's potentially another spot in the following keeper league (4th year since inception). It's a group of good active owners but the we have not yet heard from the last owner and the draft is in two days (Tuesday at 6 PM Pacific) so I wanted to throw this out there just in case we need another owner and there are interested people.

details below with the team info updated for this team. please post in the thread if you'd like to inquire or in the league thread here. Thanks!

info on the league:

Keeper rules:
5 keepers kept, at least 1 hitter and 1 pitcher
Keeper cost: The 1st year a player is kept they cost the round they were drafted in.
2nd year: +1 round earlier
3rd year: +3 rounds earlier
4th year: +6 rounds earlier
5th year: +10 rounds earlier
If you do not have the draft pick to keep that player, you may keep that player for +1 earlier round. If you do not have the earlier draft pick, it takes the next earliest round. For example, John Doe is a 6th rder, but you traded your 6th and 5th pick, John Doe costs you a 4th rder.
You may keep a MAX of 2 players per round.

If you trade for a player, his keeper cost is the round he was drafted in.
If you pick up a player from FA who was drafted, his keeper cost is the round he was drafted in.
If you pick up a player from FA who was NOT drafted, his keeper cost is the last drafting round.
A max of 3 FA's who were not drafted may be kept per year.
Keepers can be kept for a max of 5 years

info on team:

Nelson Cruz (can be kept at 10th rounder this year/3rd year being kept this year)
Yoenis Cespedes (2nd/1st)
Buster Posey (1st/1st)
Matt Kemp (5th/1st)
Mark Trumbo (19th/1st)
Carlos Santana (15th/1st)
Dustin Pedroia (14th/1st)
Troy Tulowitzki (3rd/1st)
Melky Cabrera (22nd/1st)
Pedro Alvarez (23rd/1st)
Brett Lawrie (25th/1st)
David Wright(15th/1st)

Masahiro Tanaka (5th/3rd)
Kenley Jansen (4th/1st)
Matt Harvey (12th/1st)
Marcus Stroman (16th/1st)
Francisco Rodriguez (10th/1st)
Jordan Zimmermann (7th/1st)
Mike Leake (17th/1st)
Luke Gregerson (20th/1st)

Pedro Strop(21st/1st)
Scott Kazmir (11th/1st)
Trevor Rosenthal (6th/1st)

Anibal Sanchez (18th/1st)

So, I'll list all the batters and pitchers separately with round costs attached.

Assume youre already keeping a top 5 SP and 4 very good bats, which combined will cost a total of $130 of your $300 auction budget.
For your final keeper do you go with:
$1 Justin Turner
$5 Duffy
$5 Dahl

Fwiw we play with CI, MI, and 1 UT.

EDIT - I should just list my other keepers:
Harper, Votto, Lindor, JDM, Bumgarner

Probably relevant info:
Yahoo lists Turners projected value at $8, and average auction cost of $8
Duffy is projected value at $7, average cost at $8.5
Dahl projected for $13, average cost $14

Duffy not close

Idk about "not close".
It seems prettttty close to me since fangraphs auction calculator projects both Turner and Duffy for ~$14 and Turner is $4 cheaper, plus the actual prices Yahoo lists (and a lot of owners will use to base their bidding on in the online auction) that are almost identical.

anyway i'd go with duffy because you can't keep 5 hitters and 1 pitcher on the premise of expecting to find value in pitching. i can safely assume a lot pitchers will be kept which raises the likely auction price of the best of the rest. there is absolutely no chance duffy goes for under 9 in your auction

while i don't think turner goes for 1 either, i think you can get him for considerably less than the difference between duffy's keeper price and auction price (turner is really getting slept on and i have no explanation for why)

as for dahl, i think that's kind of a non-starter this year. his injury status does him no favors

Ha, I already knew who SRM would pick. Duffy is my gut choice too, but i can think of really good reasons for all 3

Dahl's injury is what screwed this whole thing up. Before that report came out he was a mortal lock for me to keep. Even so, hes still tempting just based on his longterm outlook - power/speed/Coors/22 yrs old

Just had one of my 2 important drafts.

My keeper pitchers were Justin Verlander, Kyle Hendricks, John Lackey, and Trevor Bauer, so I figured grabbing Kershaw at 5 would make my pitching unstoppable.

Also made sure to get Domingo Santana

Don't let me down, SRM!

Bumping this as it seems the team is open.

notes:

morales is having himself a ****ing spring. i'm all in on him crushing this year hitting 3rd in that lineup

i wouldn't draft him, nor would i pick him up in preseason, but danny santana is definitely a guy worth keeping on your watch list. obviously it's a big problem that he has no power and needs a considerable babip to have any semblance of effectiveness but if purely for the sake of argument his ISO goes up and his babip improves even marginally he could be a excellent pickup for anyone in need of steals and eventually runs when he inevitably moves up in the order accordingly

another big thing to keep an eye on: don't think Watson will end up being the PIT closer, and that it's trending towards Hudson (but no official news or word on who will be closer yet)

ya i agree with that entirely and don't understand why people are so deadset on drafting watson at his ADP. it's not as if he was strong enough last year to where the idea of him being a lock for the closer role is a given

I mean, Hudson struggled a bit last year, and there's been 0 real talk of him being closer, why it's sort of "under the radar".

also had no idea Hedges will be starting C for SD, seemed like a good prospect and did well in AAA last year, but I've been all over Wieters since he's still going late, such a good team to hit on now and Norris on waivers so he has the playing time

Watson had a three-homer game in early September that ballooned his late stats and otherwise went 15-for-17 in saves. Generally, teams prefer the incumbent if it's at all close. The whole bullpen talks about him as the de facto closer. Are you guys assuming based on spring results? Or are there sources out there speaking to the Hudson effect?

solid read, this line in particular "Manager Clint Hurdle is focused more on Watson's usage than his new ninth-inning role."

he also hasn't looked great this ST (small sample and doesnt mean a ton yet)

I read that to mean they feel they've over-taxed him. in that article, Hurdle specifically said he feels Watson can handle the role. Not saying Watson can't lose the role, but sure feels like its his right now.
