It's the "eye test". I watch all the M's games and every at bat he is really patient and has great discipline. He is hitting the ball really hard (double and another HR today). Of his 11 hits he has 5 doubles and 4 homeruns. These aren't bloop hits or anything, he is crushing the ball. Hits in the 6 slot. No way the M's take him out of the lineup when Segura comes back, so he likely will gain OF or 1B eligibility as well.

Also he has hit at least 3-4 balls that fell within 10 feet of being homers (2 in the last game I went to earlier this week).

His BABIP right now is probably under what it really should be given how well he is hitting the ball. Whether pitchers adjust and that stops remains to be seen, but for now he's owning and should be a great source of RBI and power.

I was at the Ms/As game tonight specifically to watch Paxton and Haniger. Even sported my vintage Mariners jersey to help the cause!



Sadly, my ridiculously hot 21 yr old friend distracted me the entire game and I dont remember anything post tailgate bbq.

He is swinging for the fences a bit too much for my liking and if his whiff rate goes up when pitchers adjust the floor can be really bad

Having said that there are worse players to take a flyer on and wouldnt rule out picking him up

I'd pick him up just in case but I expect nothing out of him. He's a 36 year old fly ball hitter. His numbers are not at all out of line with what happens when someone like that faces diminishing power especially considering it was already diminishing last year
