And I don't even agree with the paying for quality pitching. This year obvi if you want to use this strat you need one of kersh bum scherzer but last year if you did this and had any two of

Harvey
Keuchel
Gray
Waino
Salazar
Degrom
Arreita
Stroman
Richards
Ross

You're ****ed. And all those guys ADPs were top 120 on espn last season too. Pitching is just so volatile from year to year and there aren't many guys who are consistently good
Do you play roto or H2H? Two different games!

I was in the 10 spot (uhg!) but it went okay I think. Closers went quicker than I had hoped but like my SP the lineup is balanced but weak and gotta hope the SPs work out. Fantasy baseball is always a work in progress and I typically have a lot of turnover

Keon Broxton will be battling Villar for steals leader.

Holy **** this team is bad, would be shocked if you finished top 6.

Hendricks in the 5th is mind numbingly bad and I'm assuming you picked Blackmon over Harper or Rizzo which is incredibly bad as well.

You are going to finish bottom 3 in homers and RBI

Hitter over scherzer, anyone over Blackmon, chapman or Jensen over Lester, Watson isn't the official closer yet, and ya Hendricks in the 5th is unforgivable

Your closer situation over a full season is horrible since Herrera and Colome are the 2 most likely to be traded, you for some reason went pitching early and still only have 4 SPs which is...strange. I realize it's roto but if you're gonna take scherzer 2nd you better make damn sure you dominate ks and wins. Not only did you not take enough pitchers to do that the ones you took aren't even really strikeout pitchers and one of them plays for the worst team in baseball. You will be at or near the bottom in hr and RBI and you damaged your average with the hitters you took to fill the lineup

Thanks for all the support! I know everyone here is hitter oriented but that just doesn't work so well in roto. I have another draft tomorrow and will be employing a different strategy (heavy bats/speed and closers). But loading the boat with slow power hitters is a losing strategy. The team I am most worried about is the guy who took RPs in rounds 3 through 7. Hendricks a reach? Probably but when you are at the end there was no way an SP I wanted was getting back to me. There are worse things than an absolute stellar whip/era on a winning team That's if he can even be close to last year and stays healthy but you can say that about anyone.

Any cobbled together pitching staff will suck in roto. It just will. And you cannot ignore steals. If you punt any category you lose.

Which is funny because you just punted two categories bordering on 3 with avg.

You know what else you can't do in roto and win? Put together a cobbled aging offense and expect to be competitive

I'm not interested in being critical, just think it's an interesting discussion since it's so different than the way I would go. Trying to execute your strategy from the 10 spot, wouldn't you be better served going Scherzer, Bumgarner, Villar, and then getting maybe a Pollock or Myers?

Year in and year out this sentiment proves to be completely false. Can you build a rotation that will top the pitching rankings if you don't take one in the first 10? Maybe not, but you can very easily build one that's at worst average which coupled with an elite offense will get you to the top

The problem with your sentiment relative to your draft is that you used the 15th overall pick on a guy with a fractured knuckle in his pitching hand who's using a brand new grip this season. There's a chance he pitches well enough to justify the pick in spite of that but there's a greater chance he doesn't

And even if he does you failed to supplement this pick with a single other 9 k/9 starter, so the hypothetical 250 ks scherzer gets you are watered down quickly. You ratios SHOULD be close to the top but the other 3 volume categories are in trouble already

I can't adequately express how bad 1. Blackmon in light of what you followed it up with. I agree with your premise that you need steals in a roto but you have so much more than you need and nothing in power/RBI. You don't even have high upside late round fliers cuz you wasted those picks on middle relievers who might be closers or will be middle relievers. You don't have starters with upside for the same reason

The only pitchers I'm paying up for in a roto this year are kershaw, madbum, Jansen and chapman. All 4 are worth their ADP or are outright steals at their ADP. Much easier to build a staff in the later rounds around them than to build an offense in the later rounds around Blackmon and villar

Ehhhh this doesn't really strike me as a team with a dominant pitching staff. It should be good, but with as offensive as your offense is youre going to need max points in every pitching cat and i just dont see it. How are you even going to hit your pitching inning max without streaming? You only drafted 4 SP by my count.
Also was your goal to win steals by like 50 over the 2nd place team? Villar, Blackmon, Eaton, Nunez, Kiermaier conservatively project for ~125 steals by themselves. Meanwhile your whole team might not even combine for that many RBI lol. And brace yourself for 1 roto point in HR.

Even if your strategy is viable I dont think your execution is in this case.

I have made money playing straight roto every year for more than a decade running and have no idea what you're talking about. Investing your high picks in volatile injury risks makes very little sense, especially when they're SPs who affect fewer categories than the hitters you're taking them over. I can understand taking one SP high, but forcing it makes very little sense and taking a second pitcher anywhere in the vicinity of the first is nonsensical.

Initial thought is my hitting is kind of weak. I didn't really like many of the hitters available in the 140-180 range though, and by then I needed RBI and there wasn't much available.

Out of the 6 hole and of course the 5 guys I wanted were gone. The plan was to go 4 hitters and 4 RPs in first 8. That didn't happen But I do like the balance although wish I had one more closer. Wasn't planning on an early SP but just didn't like the bats there with Bum staring me in the face.
