Agreed, while replacement value for top SPs seems to be dramatically worse than previous years. Something something juiced balls low contact rates.

Pitchers are higher variance than hitters--no doubt. But the fact that 4 of the top 7 players on the player rater this year are pitchers and they all had ADP <25 makes me think that the risk of an elite ADP pitcher is probably commensurate with the reward.

Hitters aren't without risks either. They tend to bust less spectacularly than pitchers, but if you drafted Miggy/bro/Donaldson/Machado this year you got 6th or worse round value out of it--dramatically closer to replacement value than what you bargained for and really not that much better off than if you had a pitching bust instead.

I am still debating it in my mind. I think it depends on how the rest of the team is doing. If your starters are killing it you can afford that loss of 70 good ratio RP innings. And if your batters are killing it you can afford to lose those 30 games of catcher batting.

Just a thought I would like to hear opinions on. I am a HUGE fan of those extra RPs to add Ks and smooth ratios. Not to the point where I wouldn't roster a catcher at all though.
It's an interesting idea. Another benefit is you can easily drop one with little risk of them being picked up by someone else in case you hear of some major prospect call up, closer spec, or there's a big drop in your league. Then adjust your roster and pick them back up when you've got the space for it.

The catcher position is always a pita. If you only carry one which I generally do you will miss 25+ games of production a year. Something I did on 2 of my teams in the last 2 months was carry BOTH catchers of the same team. I think it worked out well enough to try across the board next season.

The 2 pairs I had were Flowers/Suzuki and Pina/Vogt. Together these guys add up to a respectable batting slot where most will trail relatively. For the full season Flowers/Suzuki added up to 79 runs/31HR/99 rbi/.282 and no steals.

With only one catcher you leave too much production on the floor. But with 2 (unless they are on the same team) you will still lose lots of production. But with 2 from the same team you should gain it all. Also I want it from east coast or Midwest team since you need to know who is starting each day.

It has cons as well. You lose an important roster spot. I typically only carry one bench hitter and load up on as many solid ratio/K relievers as I can and in particular those with SP/RP designation to fill all spots when I don't have a starter going that day. Losing that solid 70ish innings will hurt but maybe not as much as that 25+ games of hitting production will add?

Thoughts? Obviously you need a solid catching pair but I think this will leave less production on the floor by being able to get all or most of 162 games in at catcher. Injuries will play a role too as most of these guys get dinged from time to time. I still think it is better than getting no production from 30 game slots even if it is "catcher" production.
I actually did this in my 2 catcher AL only league with Gary Sanchez and Austin Romine. Which obviously had a pretty big advantage when Sanchez missed time.

However, in a one catcher league I'm not wasting a bench spot on a catcher. Most of the time if I don't have a top tier catcher I'll actually start a 50/50 timeshare guy because it lessons the pain on you OBP or Avg.

Can anyone tell me anything about walker Buehler I can’t tell from Fan graphs? I picked him up in a dynasty and am getting a lot of trade buzz. A top ~20 prospect for the dodgers has to be solid but don’t know anything else about him

Only know that he throws lightning and the Dodgers have refused to talk about him, which lately has been a really good sign. probably have some people speculating on the Dodgers recent track record with untradables. I know you said no Fangraphs, but his player page has links to a bunch of articles they've at least touched on him in; worth reading if you haven't.

yeah i started getting into those articles this morning too. i thought it was interesting that the dodgers really havent hyped him at all, unlike someone like urias, which made me think hes possibly even better (buehler is).

So, if you're drafting today with some assurance that Ohtani is coming over, for a daily lineup league where you can plug him into UT between starts, where are you drafting him?
