i was actually thinking about that question quite a bit the other day. last time i did this i did this basically as GW said, whatever teams were failing i just let fail and focused on the teams that weren't. this year however i can't afford that approach because i'm going to play so many leagues that even if i did that i'll still (hopefully) be left with a lot of leagues to manage
a little background: i own and run a small business and it affords me a little bit of time each day to **** around on stuff like this (i've been drafting from work for a number of my drafts so far)
so anyway, i'm not sure what the maximum allowable number of leagues is, but assuming there isn't one or that it's a really high number my goal is to play 100 pro leagues (34 $250s, 33 $100s and 33 $50s). i think it would be a really fun challenge and wanted to give that a shot to see if i could pull it off and pull it off profitably
i have a theory on how i have to approach this for it to be +EV for me and i'm likely going to draft all my subsequent drafts the same way...first off i can't do roto. if i try to do a massive amount of roto leagues i'm just lighting money on fire. to that end, if i'm doing h2h the most optimal way to do it with minimal (relatively) management is to not look at each draft with the goal of drafting the best team but just to draft a team that can finish in the top 6 in the regular season. with a 7 inning minimum if you have the best offense and if you have efficient (on average) pitching getting in the top 6 is doable. so i've been looking at each draft as of late and taking 17 hitters and 6 pitchers, all closers with good ratios and less than elite k's or elite (non strikeout) relievers. the end result has been an overwhelmingly top heavy and deep as hell offense and a pitching that's punting wins and k's but so be it. again, because this is h2h and because 6 teams make the playoffs i can punt wins and strikeouts and not be punished for it.
the important thing is this approach doesn't force me to race to my computer and try to spam pick up in 100 ****ing leagues the same closer every time a new closer shows up, nor do i really have to sweat racing to my computer to try to spam pickup the next HOT PROSPECT
i have to rely on my draft/trades a lot more and my pickups a whole hell of a lot less which is troubling, BUT i still have enough talent that unless i get comically unlucky with injuries my hitting should rule the day
