Re: 2012 Fantasy Baseball Thread
declaring today "mike fish appreciation day." good lord. stats through 4 innings: 3/3 3 runs 2 rbi 2 steals
through 37.5 games: 31 runs, 5 homers, 24 rbi, 13 steals, .353 avg
if this league were a keeper league i'd declare him the GOAT and would trade him for nobody. alas it isn't, but i'd still only trade him 1:1 for probably 10 people

i fully expect his average to improve and to go the rest of the season getting runs on a pace that would give him > 100 over 162 games
as far as ss options over the long run of the season i think he's the best bet of those listed, including furcal

Yes , Boni was stranded numerous times early on , his runs will improve. Thanks for the advice guys.

Re: 2012 Fantasy Baseball Thread
Boni is the kind of guy that can gain you several points over the course of the year in SB by himself.
I think he's still the MLB leader and has been out for like a month.

huh?
youre not building a team around any late rounders. that makes zero sense.
they are just guys to fill out your roster who you expect to contribute very little to your overall teams production.
ive never heard of anyone building around one of their last picks

I build around a draft strategy and a big part of that is who I can get later in certain positions I'm not able to draft earlier.
Obviously I'm not drafting 'AROUND' Mike Moustakas, but the fact that I know he's available in later round can easily impact who I take in an earlier round when building my team.

Re: 2012 Fantasy Baseball Thread
Example: This year, I have 5 teams and only one guy on all five: Jason Kipnis. That's because I knew that passing on 2Bs early would leave me a choice of Kipnis/Ackley/Espinoza in 17-22 (standard 10 team) and that the potential gap between them and the top guys was far lesser than that at other positions. There was a amjor drop after (before, turns out...) Morse and Berkman, so I'd always have a 1B by then, same thing with the gap after Lawrie/ARod/Aramis...waiting on 2B was a far lesser evil, so I did it in every draft.
I had no idea Kipnis would be what he has been, but I knew he'd shown power/speed potential and had a solid lineup spot/job security, so I liked him more than the other guys in that grouping and that the danger of his going started around the 17th, so that's when I generally grabbed him. Its a pretty simple cost/return analysis.
You don't build around these guys, but you can draft upside in the late rounds based on prior performance/projections with the knowledge that upside realized, you'll close the gap within the position. You're not building your team around pre-12 Kipnis, but he helps you understand why, in a given year, you should be taking a 3B or 1B before Cano/Kinsler/Pedroia.
