Re: 2012 Fantasy Baseball Thread
grunching, but anyone have any general tips for a first time fantasy baseball owner? first year of a keeper league, and the draft is next week. standard ESPN scoring categories. Pitchers or Hitters early? when should i start drafting promising rookies? ESPN set rankings alright to go by?

Re: 2012 Fantasy Baseball Thread
If you are short on time just read the articles on ESPN and go with their (keeper) rankings. If you want more, razzball.com is the best site out there.

Just think of the ESPN rankings as sort of a general guideline and adjust based on your league categories/personal preferences.
I generally like to stock up on bats, bats and more bats in the early rounds. Usually I don't take a pitcher until ~6th round. Not that Verlander isn't awesome and won't provide first-round value, but give me Justin Upton in the first round and I'll be perfectly happy grabbing MadBum five rounds later.
IRM tried out a completely opposite strategy last year, which led to some good discussion.
Don't be at all afraid to reach for a player a round or two early if you really want them. According to Yahoo! rankings last year, Zobrist and Napoli were going off the board right around the 10th-11th round. I think I grabbed them in the 7th/8th and that worked out just fine.
Another good resource is Fantasy 411, which has positional rankings, composite projections, mock draft results, etc.

Re: 2012 Fantasy Baseball Thread
Keeper league choice, no salaries. Draft each year. 6 keepers. Planning on keeping:
Longoria/Ellsbury/Kershaw/Lince/Pence
Can't decide between Harper, LoMo and Kendrick for the last spot. Could also keep Lind or Konerko.
Head to Head Points
C,1,2,3,S,CIF,OF,OF,OF,OF,UTIL
SP,SP,SP,SP,RP
8x BE
This will be like the 4th season of this league and it has strong participation (ie I don't think its likely that it will die within the next year or two).
Any thoughts?

You're splitting hairs with both of these choices. For what it's worth, I could go Upton and Kinsler. You may find this useful:

If so, I could go with:
Quote:
Derek Holland P Rangers $ 6
Matt Moore P Rays $ 8
Jordan Walden P Angels $ 6
|
The rest, I figure you could redraft almost all of them for those exact prices or less.

I have been wanting to join an AL only (or NL only) league for quite some time. The process where new players who have switched leagues are introduced really intrigues me... land the top pick and you get to add Pujols! Total chaos but seems like it would be a lot of fun.

I agree, he has been done for quite some time. Stay away this year, along with the rest of NYM.

Yuck. I guess I would go with Kendrick, but I wouldn't be too pleased unless this is a very large league.

Re: 2012 Fantasy Baseball Thread
So I joined a keeper league last year and won the league. Rejoined the league for this year.
Keep 10 players, then draft the rest.....So, I'm reading the details for this years draft and see that the draft will not be snake draft, and I'm the last pick in every round. Obviously that's a HUGE disadvantage for this year.
There was no mention of a non-snake draft for year 2 (First year was obv snake) prior to a couple days ago.
Do I have a legitimate gripe?

Beyond whether it was written somewhere, you have a gripe because it's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of.

That's what I figured. First time in a keeper league so I wasn't sure.
Lots of BS in the league. Commish asks for input on rule changes (in the middle of the season), everyone answers....average out the answers, right? No....pick what his closest buddies thinks is best.
Thought since I won, and had a very good team that I would come back. Now I encounter this draft BS and another message saying that scoring changes were discussed and implemented for this year (They weren't discussed with me).
Just a poorly run league from all aspects.
