I took a crack at formalizing the rule changes we've implemented over the last couple of years and will insert them into the posted rules if everything looks ok here. Some of these were existing rules that got tweaked slightly, while others are new. Let me know if you see anything that should be edited. When the new rules are inserted, I'll leave them highlighted in the google doc for this season.

* Any rostered player (regardless of rookie status) may be optioned to a minor league roster, provided they were optioned IRL. After pre-season cuts have been submitted, an owner is not permitted to cut a minor leaguer or exceed the 20-player cap to make room for a demotee. However, minor leaguers may be cut to make room for players acquired via trade.

* A team's minor league roster may not exceed 20 players under any circumstance. Teams may roster as few minor leaguers as they choose, there is no minimum floor.

* Teams are guaranteed five picks in the draft, with five rounds total. If a team trades away one of its guaranteed picks (rounds 1-5) or a minor leaguer, that team does not receive any compensation picks.

* If a team chooses to enter the draft with more than 15 minor leaguers on its roster, it will only be granted enough picks to reach the maximum of 20. For example, a team begins the draft with 18 rostered minor leaguers and receives only 2 guaranteed picks that year. A team can trade for additional guaranteed picks, but may only spend them all if they have roster space. Traded picks that can not be spent that year do not carry over to future drafts.

* Teams may have only active MLB players on their roster. Thus, teams cannot hide a minor leaguer on their active roster unless that player is called up IRL.

* Unowned rookies may be added over waivers on a 1-year contract, but must be dropped at the conclusion of the season.

* Any player owned at the conclusion of the free agent auction (according to the auction website) may be added via the waiver wire, but must then be dropped at the conclusion of that season (signifying a 1-year rental contract). All other players that are unowned following the auction can be added and retained on a normal 5-year contract. Furthermore, if those players (not originally owned) are later dropped mid-season, they can still be added again on a 5-year contract.

* All trades must be posted PUBLICLY in the 2+2 league thread for 48 hours before they are official. During this 48 hour period, ANY team may make an offer to either team involved in the trade, and either team can feel free to take it. This counter-offer must be posted for a subsequent 48 hour period if it is accepted. If neither team accepts a counter-offer, after 48 hours the trade becomes official, pending commissioner and/or league approval. For trades that take place during the rookie draft or free agent auction, the counter-offer window is limited to 12 hours. A hold may be placed on the counter window at the commissioner's discretion (such as pausing overnight) to ensure owners get a fair chance at countering.

* Teams may trade any and all commodities available within the confines of the fantasy league (no IRL currency). Teams may not delay a trade's completion in the form of a "player to be named later," or the equivalent.
