FD just clarified their scripting policy on RG, won't allow scripts to edit lineups. The masses seem appeased.

I am of the opinion, and I am no lawyer, just my opinion, that PGA is legal, as it takes four events to have one golf tournament, ie you can buy a ticket for each day.

NASCAR on the other hand... um...

I can see the argument that qualifying and the actual race are two separate events, so if you scoring includes elements of qualifying it would seem legit.

But that is stretching things very thin.

Or Sprint + Xfinity?

Fantasy Sports Live had this, and the game was much better IMO. You chose 4 Xfinity/Nationwide/Busch drivers and 5 Sprint/Nextel/Winston drivers. If you had a poor showing in the first race, you always had a chance to come back in the second.

Xfinity and Sprint don't always run on the same weekend, but you could mix in Trucks, Indycar, F1 or even NHRA.

For golf you could mix in LPGA or seniors events.

Can we remove the "(1st State law introduced today)" from the title? It doesn't seem relevant to an industry wide discussion to me and I think distracts from what should be a good thread?

I agree. (I cannot do it though, not a mod here.)

I just want to point out that FD has suspended violators of TOS in the past, mostly for using automated means to scoop H2H games.

However, the result is usually 24-72 hours suspension with no forfeiture of prize money. The penalties are a joke. There is no disincentive to use automation to edit when big money is at stake.

In fact, the only time I can remember a prized being stripped on FD is 4 or 5 years ago when a player won a seat to a live Vegas final, but didn't meet eligibility requirements... It was widely speculated he was underage (under 21).

I supposed PGA technically isn't daily fantasy sports because it takes place over 4 days, but then NFL would fall under the same category because it goes from Thursday to Monday. I just think Fanduel is making a mistake, I think PGA DFS is growing in popularity and they are missing out on a lot of action and of course, RAKE.

Nono, you are missing the core issue. It's a legal one. The law states:

Quote:
(III) No winning outcome is based–
(aa) on the score, pointspread, or any performance or performances of any single real world team or any combination of such teams; or
(bb) solely on any single performance of an individual athlete in any single real-world sporting or other event.
Simply put: Daily Fantasy contests results have to be based on "more than one event."

NFL clearly has multiple events in a week. Is a PGA tournament more than one event? you can buy a ticket just for Friday...

I get the legal argument they make, but it is very easy to get around in my non-lawyer eyes.

Just add the LPGA, Sr. Tour, Euro Tour, and Web.com Tour events taking place in a given week. Price all of those golfers at $25k/golfer such that you cannot win by choosing them. Create a dropdown filter like they have for other sports so you can look only at the PGA contest. Profit.

Now people are always choosing golfers from the PGA event, but you clearly have a field that consists of multiple real world sporting events and all their participants.

Read the law snippet again, the RESULTS have to be determined from more than one real life event.

I presume the argument is that you aren't playing based on one round or one tournament but on one based on 18 holes or 72 holes whereby each hole is a separate event

yea and wouldn't the results of this be determined from more than one event? If you mean like how they make you have players from multiple games in other sports then price 1 golfer from each of those tournies on other tours at 25k and the rest at 40k then add 25k to your budget for each of those events you list. With all but one golfer at 40k and one at 25k everyone will be forced into picking the same golfer in the other events and they will all cancel out so only the PGA guys matter.

Yup, as long as the results are "based on more than one event" and the "prize pool is stated in advance", you have yourself a legal fantasy contest for real money online.

March 31 is fairly old for an update More recent news is less optimistic with Baazov talking about end of year (2015) iirc. There's very little time remaining to attract players before the start of this NFL season.

I guess I might as well ask here: any hope for europe players to be able to play fantasy football this season if PS is too late? FFPC claims (email) that UK players are welcome. They only do season-long, not DFS though. Any reason why they they would allow players from pretty much any country, while DFS operators don't?

I would think UK/EU gaming licensing issues/conflicts are the reason.

skirting the law this way seems way more offensive/sketchy than just hoping/having your lawyers try to show that the games as is are legal. i would be way more scared about the future of dfs golf/dfs nascar if they were doing something like this.
