I don't think he was questioning the play but the statement.

I just read the entire thread (aside from that one guy's walls of texts.. it does appear he know his stuff from the bits people quoted, but give me a break).

Much of it is from 2009, when Tom Dwan was very new. I didn't know either of them until about two years ago, as I was not into poker.

Having started to study and learn and watch videos a couple of years back, it always appeared to me that Dwan is actually a better holdem cash game player. Obviously Ivey is a ninja in any from of poker, which Dwan can't match. As well, durrrr doesn't seem as interested in tourney play.

Some guy asked a handful of times back in 2009 in this thread, so let me ask again, now that durrrr is a big boy himself:

My vote? I got durrrr.. he just rocks everybody heads up. No one escapes his wrath. Not even Ivey.

dude ur living in the past... this poll is completely irrelevant now, and also don't be fooled, this was filmed during a time when the players were making insane amounts of money through endorsements. Wouldn't be surprised if many of them are broke now.

Ivey imo. But it's real close. Dwan gets involved more and does not appear to care who with. Ivey is far more calculating to situations he sees as optimal spots. But for me it's ivey because all the tables I've ever seen him in he is by far the single most attentive player there. Rarely jokes with the guys... just watches everything and pulls off random insane bluffs like the 2/5 os 4bet vs lex velhouse... (personal favorite bluff ever) followed by nutts.... i honestly cannot recall him ever getting caught making a bad bluff for any substancial amount. Dwan is a close second as far as being way more attentive to the game than all the banter the other guys do.. he also makes the most unorthodox lead out bets into 4-6 players I've ever seen and somehow he is almost always correct.. love em both... just gotta see if Dwan evolves ... it's a mismatch in maturity poker wise I guess. Maybe in 10 years I'll say Dwan is king... in cash games there are players I love that are not as well known that can hang with durr and ivey. Like Ashton griffin, Raj vorah, lucky chewy, sauce123, and all the big time red letter pros from high stakes full tilt games ... but ivey is king for now and foreseeable future. Imo

It's tough to even predict which poker variant will even be the most played in 10 years (and which ones will be completely solved) ... but predicting which (among today's) players will be "king" ? Brave man !

but in what ways is Phil Ivey not good? that is the interesting question.

That's totally how you can tell if someone's gonna be kickass poker player
