what is actually GTO?

Hi all.

I always thought, that GTO is a strategy against which the opponent can not increase his EV through changing of his strategy.

Now I encountered a different definition in micro LH forum

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/35...54/index3.html

It said basically, that GTO is a balanced strategy, which maximize the EV.

Can somebody give a correct definition?

P.S. I could not find a definition with a quick search here in the forums.

Re: what is actually GTO?

GTO is not necessarily an EV maximizing strategy. It's a single player playing the nash equilibrium strategy

more exactly tho isn`t it playing such a strategy within given information parameters?Ie a poker bot may not take into account timing of bets etc.

I'm not an expert, but I think your first definition is of an unexploitable strategy. A GTO strategy is a special type of unexploitable strategy; it's the unexploitable strategy which maximizes expectation against an opponent also playing unexploitably.

GTO strategies definitely do not maximize EV in normal circumstances, however, since no one plays GTO in the first place. We maximize EV by exploiting our villains, not by playing unexploitably.

Such a what? A NE strategy or the ev maximizing strategy? I'm not clear which one you are referring to.
