In Ed millers' book.. Pro no limit hold'em .. U want to set mine if the spr is over ten...

For ex say u are playing 1/2nl and a mp raiser opens for 6.... another mp player calls.... I am on button and i call.

All players have 100 behind them in the game.
So pot with antes will be 21 bucks ... and since two players in pot Spr will be 10.. basically
21 divided by 200 possibly able to win if both players got all in.

Lets say the mp caller vs raise only had like 50 bb's... so 21/150 is seven basically and should fold.

BUT I've also read that its ok to call here if less than 10% of your stack size and can also opponents stack size.
is this line of thinking correct? Or is Ed miller right in his books about needing an spr over ten to profit here in general.

Set-mining is an inexact science, partly because some pairs are better than others (getting oversetted is rare but brutal, winning with set over set is wonderful) and partly because in some games you'll rarely get paid off even when you flop your set vs top pair/overpair. The implied odds really depend on whom you're playing against. In contemporary games, implied odds nearer 15:1 are probably required for pure set-mining. In online games against competent players, the smallest pairs are often unplayable facing a 3x open. Presumably in soft live games, set-mining for 10% of your stack is still worthwhile, especially multiway, as there's often at least one player that will pay you off when you hit. It depends, though, as I said.
