I'm unsure whether this is the right place for this post, feel free to move it if it's not...

I was wondering for a pet project of mine: what is the the formula (or algorithm) that tools like pokerstove use to evaluate the equity of a range vs another? I understand how they evaluate a single hand and but I'm puzzled on they make t work for ranges.

The same way, they jut calculate the equity for every hand in the range. If every hand in the range has an equal probability then they just average the results. If the probabilities are weighted then they do a weighted average.

Pokerstove took shortcuts by using "equivalency classes". For any given range there are going to be hands in that range that are going to have equivalent equities. So if you can group, say, 10 hands together because you know they have the same outcomes, then you only have to simulate one of those instead of all 10.
